Did you know that putting floating solar on only 10% of the surface of all the reservoirs that humans have built could provide 110% of the electricity that we now are producing? Well, now you do.

Germany's flooded farmers brace for winter frost

After weeks of rain and flooding, a dry spell and frost are welcome, but the problems are not over yet. And it seems unlikely that the already squeezed government budget will be able to help weary farmers.

The South American #monsoon, which determines the #climate of much of the continent, might be pushed towards a “critical destabilisation point”, finds new study with PIK scientist Niklas Boers. This could put the #Amazon #rainforest at risk of large-scale dieback, which would in turn lead to substantial additional global warming due to additional release of greenhouse gases from the degrading trees.

"The study examines how #ForestDegradation and #monsoon circulation are interlinked.

Human degradation of the #Amazon – by land clearance, fire, logging and mining – is pushing that system towards a tipping point, after which drier conditions would be expected to cause an abrupt “regime shift” in the rainforest, which would be unable to sustain itself and transport moisture."

🌧️ To balance all my whining about no rain, I must be sure to acknowledge 10 whole minutes of moderate shower this evening. Enough to dampen the ground and create a few puddles. Proverbial drop in the bucket, but since #Arizona had basically no #monsoon at all this year, every one of those drops counts. 💧 😍
