Calling for the expulsion of Jewish organizations at Pitt while still claiming to not be antisemitic is an interesting intellectual exercise but not one Jews are going to pretend not to notice.

@TonyStark They aren’t even shy about showing their siding with Hamas. This makes them a threat to democracy and therefore deserve nothing less than a sentence of treason. Everything Hamas stands for is contrary to The Constitution and these people are nothing less than amateur terrorists doing the leg work for older more experienced terrorists. It’s frankly embarrassing that these people pretend to have anything to do with academia.

"In his new book, and the 1753 Law Controversy, author Yoel Sheridan, born and educated in , analyzes the ancient and long-enduring phenomenon of antisemitism in . Essentially what he demonstrates is an abiding element within society, ever ready to boil over into violence in earlier times, and later into hate speech and discrimination. Since antisemitism is essentially irrational, he demonstrates that the trigger for antisemitic action at any one time can vary with the religious, social, or political weather."

@dukepaaron It seems like a lot of the time when looking at these historical takes the problem is a denial of identity and the origins of that identity. The more folk people tend to hate the intersections of their hallowed heritage being because of anything “alien” being responsible. Offshoots of identity have a real problem with this because they want to kill off the parent identity. They tie up their authenticity of personhood to the myth and don’t want to recognize worldly complexity.

There is no such thing as the Judeo-Christian tradition. It is a figment of the supersessionist imagination. It is a term meant to co-opt Jews and Jewish history into a narrative to give legitimacy to that narrative. It is a term that erases and . Everyone should stop using that term.

robbienorlyn,
@robbienorlyn@babka.social avatar

@antonia @serge @littlemiao In America this is just common knowledge. It is said that the country has roots in Judeo-Christian values. Every single major Protestant branch in America holds this view too.
I’m kind of surprised that this isn’t something you haven’t just heard in passing even in Germany. Like it’s so common of a statement that you can find it in sci-fi non-religious programs like Stargate SG-1. Teal’c bugs O’Neil about it at least once or twice being an alien living on Earth.
Most of the thought boils down to Christianity having important works and figures from Hebrew history and culture in their Bible. It is composed of works translated for the Greeks from Torah, Tanakh, their own Testament, Epistles, and a variety of apocryphal works depending on who is reading it.

robbienorlyn,
@robbienorlyn@babka.social avatar

@TonyStark @antonia @serge @littlemiao Yup, the facts that “moderate” and a good number of liberal Christians hate. The right wingers love to erase Jews because of their need to be “superior.”
In fact, it’s kind of interesting reading the accounts of the Christians who reclaimed territories from Muslims complain about Jews.
Also, to be fair, living conditions under either of these groups was contingent upon whatever their warlord rulers felt or wanted at any given time.

I’m no fan of libertarians anyway. Trump’s hardly one as he’s an obvious fascist. But both Trump and libertarians have no interest in helping anyone but themselves.

Relentless booing aside, my favorite part was when he told crowd -- with zero self awareness -- that they can't let "the worst President in history come back and finish the job" of destroying the country.

Steps on how to be a “cool” left leaning liberal:
Complain about the luxurious lifestyle you have in the diverse democratic republic you live in. Accuse other diverse democratic republics of committing genocide when they go to war regardless of any facts (feels only please). Back groups that commit terrorism with the goal of establishing an ethnostate because “reasons.”
Rinse and repeat to keep being “cool.”

Even though the Nazis were trying to keep the camps secret from even Germans uninvolved with the operations they kept first class records of everything because it was a military operation. This is such an important article. I hope people read it.

There is a ceasefire proposal in front of Hamas, one drafted by Arab nations, and Hamas is rejecting it. It would rather see the war continue and the Gazans hurt or killed, rather than provide a reprieve.

Maybe that's because Hamas leadership isn't in Gaza. They live elsewhere, in other countries far away from the fighting, and yet on the ground, Hamas runs Gaza.

What Israel should or should not do, or how it should conduct the war is absolutely a question on the table, but fundamentally a ceasefire must be two ways, a ceasefire from both sides, and if Hamas does not accept one for the sake of the Palestinian people, then it's they should should be attacked by the media.

Gaza must be freed from Hamas so the people there can live full lives, and for the possibility of peace.

Are these people for real? “Hamas exists because of Israel.” What an incredibly ignorant statement. “I fail to see how bombing to dust…” Just, wow, also astonishing. The continued ignorance on this topic is beyond belief. You know who is intentionally misleading with such exaggerated and inaccurate statements.
P.S. - I learned as a CHILD to ask questions before pretending to know anything about anything. Some people could really incorporate this into their lives.
