El Malpais National Monument | The jagged, desolate landscape is a volcanologist’s playground. A million years of volcanic activity sculpted the landscape. Numerous volcanoes and lava flows generated the field. The most recent volcanic activity was about 800 years ago.

During remarks this week, #Trump said he wanted to “pay tribute” to a person he very much respected.
Trump thanked #TomHoman, who served as acting director of #ICE during Trump’s admin [Trump loved “acting” posts bc they aren’t subject to congressional confirmation] & has since been a frequent commentator on #FauxNews.
His campaign has also said #Trump would sign an EO on his 1st day “to stop federal agencies from granting automatic US #citizenship to #children of illegal aliens” & to stop “birth tourism.” He’d also prioritize blocking federal #grants to “#sanctuary cities.”
One policy Trump has not promised is a return to #ZeroTolerance aka #FamilySeparation.
…Still, Trump has declined to take a clear stance on the issue. When asked if he’d reinstate it during a CNN townhall in May, he didn’t answer directly.
An interesting funding opportunity from the SIDN Fund for a more sustainable internet. They're calling for tools and awareness projects that contribute to a more environmentally friendly digital infrastructure.
They are offering #grants of up to €75.000. The deadline is May 3. https://www.sidnfonds.nl/call-duurzaam-internet [In Dutch]
I am a public historian volunteering my services at a historic site in the beginning stages of preserving two buildings, built in 1870s. The director really wants to start going after a large grant, but I feel they need to establish a foundation first. For those who are in this process, or who have successfully completed preservation projects, what were the initial steps you took towards that first big grant? Thanks!
We're happy to announce the results of our first #grants cycle!
Four projects were selected by our panel of advisors, and $2400 was disbursed by IFTF to support these projects. We had a range of proposals and the final slate shows great diversity - interpreters, accessibility, history, and sprouting new communities!
We are delighted with the results of this program - thank you all for participating!
New rules from the Czech Science Foundation grant applications have a list of things that imply rejection and ban from next year call, this includes:
proposing a replication study
not having an explicit hypothesis (goodbye my statistical proposal)
Look, I know this is unlikely to be actually enforced to the letter, but it is pretty worrying... #CzechScienceFoundation#grants#OpenScience
I'm looking at #homerepair & #enerysaving#grants for a #relative. There's something not right about the amount of #data you have to 'share' & the #privacy you have to give-away just to find out about #home#grant eligibility.
Clearly there are criteria but surely there could be a list or an annonymous Q&A people can use to establish potential #eligibility. Access to #personaldata should only be required if an actual application is made.
Please boost! Another post on our great opening at @wsdot Active Transportation Division. We have a fabulous telework policy; you can live anywhere in WA/OR/ID and work for us. Building a culture of belonging, prioritizing safety and connectivity for a multimodal cleaner world.
I used search terms
disability with options grant, small business and unristricted and got over 100 things though many are not in the us, there is something distributed by state. #grants
Two problems in the expert evaluation of grant applications seem insurmountable to 🇩🇪 scientists: 1) difficulties in choosing between equally acceptable proposals, and 🥁 2) nepotism. Crossed out, sorry 🤐 - "illegal problems due to networks".
Grant-writing question - isn’t it weird / stressful to put all your ideas out there, for a 10% chance to be funded, while at the same time taking the risk that other researchers (intentionally or not) might use these ideas for their own benefit?
(Of course this wouldn’t be a problem if we weren’t all competing with each other.. but we currently are) #Academia#Research#Science#Grants
