I have an #eWaste problem that I would like to solve: two #dell laptops that refuse to boot. One lights up for a couple of seconds, before shutting down again. The other seems completely dead, even after replacing the battery. The laptops are otherwise in decent conditions and I would like to revitalize them for my kids as they come of age.

Does #askFedi #mastoHelp #fediHelp have recommendations on the best course of action in this case?

I have ensured to all local posts using the CLI from https://docs.akkoma.dev/stable/administration/CLI_tasks/database/#add-expiration-to-all-local-statuses

Also configured the MRF Activity Expiration Policy thru the admin-FE and Pleroma.Workers.PurgeExpiredActivity is enabled.

But still nothing older than the expiration limit gets deleted after waiting for several days.

Wonder anybody has any idea why and how to fix it?

Hi 👋

I'm looking for how to turn off animated emojis (emoji?)

On the one hand, they are cute and fun. But on the other hand they are a distraction.

I don't want others to stop using these! I just want to stop the animation that's shown on my screen because I have limited mental energy.

Is that possible? I'm using the web interface and none of the options I've tried (see image) have helped.

Weird #question: is there a way to use #passwords without knowing them?
For example: in an API to API communication I (hopefullu) need a password or token. Is there a way to let my application retrieve and use it, without be being able to know such password?
Or: I have a shared resource (e.g.: intranet page) that, for whatever reason, I cannot put under SSO. Can I let people access such resource with a password, without sharing it or even without letting them know it?

Is there a search engine/list/tool to find the right hashtags for posting on a certain topic? #FediHelp

Manual curation is hard work, so what about a PageRank style thing that will apply Bayes' rule to all words + hashtags in all public toots, and allow to search hashtags by most-related words? Too close to a search engine?

I'm looking for a thing that will:

• live index all hashtags on a large server
• provide a searchable description/word cloud/related hashtags for each of those hashtags

I don't think #Calckey #Antennas have been adequately explained to be easily understandable.

If you put keywords like this

"cartoons tmnt" (one row)

It will show you toots containing "cartoons" and "tmnt" keywords.

If you put your keywords line by line, as in

cartoons
tmnt

It will show you results containing either keyword, cartoon, or tmnt.

Example: I have an Antenna called "Wrestling," and it catches all toots with any of the following keywords (listed one on each line)

wrestling
prowrestling
wwe
aew
njpw

Antennas WILL NOT load past toots posted BEFORE your antenna setup.

I hope this helps someone.

I've looked at #help, #mastodonHelp, #FediHelp but none seem active and appropriate.

Of them all, I like #fediHelp the most, aesthetically, since it's inclusive beyond Mastodon and follows a pattern of calling other things fedi-x.
