I don't understand what is for

Is it a distro? Or is it a orchestration tool?

At my last job our env was managed by it, but I was using it on and we also had to have , so I could honestly never figure out what it was there for.

If your software needs a database, you should always have a option. This makes it far easier to offer your software as a simple or flatpak that is completely self-contained. I promise you, in 90% of the cases, that is sufficient. I know you all aim for super big scale deployments, but it almost always starts with a test install that should be as easy as possible to get up and running.

Oof, I like #wallabag as an idea but hosting that stuff is terrible... pulling up the #Container image doesn't work... it just dies because the data/db directory must exist and be writable by the user *drumroll* nobody. The error is extremely misleading, mostly talking about the database itself not being writable, not the containing directory, which seems to be just a #PHP thing to do:

> If you receive an error while trying to write to a sqlite database (update, delete, drop):
>
> Warning: PDO::query() [function.query]: SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 1 unable to open database
>
> The folder that houses the database file must be writeable.

https://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.pdo-sqlite.php#57356

Finally, when creating a local user you need to manually pass prod to the symfony console:

bin/console --env=prod fos:user:create

Otherwise it will complain about modules not being loadable :|

We updated a certificate for an internal tool. It's a web app, deployed as a . To update the certificate we have to rebuild the container from scratch.

We also have a nice internal tool for changing user settings such as cluster access rights. It runs fine. But it's an playbook run through a CI/CD pipeline that builds, runs, then destroys two containers for every user change.

"This container could have been a shell script" feels more true every day.

In the spec is says "Global, name-defining at-rules such as @keyframes or @font or @layer that are defined inside container queries are not constrained by the container query conditions."

That doesn't seem to be right, see: https://codepen.io/matuzo/pen/gOqjQmB Or am I misinterpreting something?

If you haven't heard about torcx, don't worry about it. It's a rather specific tool for a very limited use case. Sysexts on the other hand make customising immutable, image-based Linux distros like Flatcar a lot more flexible!

Fooling around with technology, and again, together with on . The "current" approaches seem to either be using a lot of custom scripting and hooks with https://github.com/owtaylor/toolbox-vscode/ or try to hook into the toolbx container through VS Code's "Dev Containers" feature using com.visualstudio.code.tool.podman. The former is highly complex and (IME) prone to breakage, the latter runs into a lot of limitations. There's finally the option to install VS Code within the toolbox but that's kinda... ugh.

While toying around I noticed that I don't actually want to have the VS Code "run" or "connect" to the toolbx. Actually, I only want to have the integrated VS Code terminal "run" in the context of the toolbx, the "actual development" would either happen through the standard Dev Container feature with a container *for that project *(instead of re-using the toolbx container) or using Flatpak SDKs with the Flatpak extension, if publishing directly trough Flatpak like GNOME Builder does.

I"ve having a bit of a hard time understanding the use of #podman #container in #Fedora (Server). So podman containers can be downloaded as "System" images and "User" images.

What is the difference?

So far I fixed an issue with a container that was not working with the "user" image and downloaded the "System" image and ran the container with the --privileged flag. I bit confused as to what is going on here?

Just updated my #mastodon server to 4.1.3. Still waiting for S3_STORAGE_CLASS feature to be on the main channel, but hopefully it'll be in 4.2.0.

Oh and I had an issue with #postgres #docker #container. It threw collation issues, so I had to run a command inside it to fix:

docker exec mastodon_db psql -U mastodon -c "ALTER DATABASE mastodon REFRESH COLLATION VERSION"

Apparently it's been there since 15.3:

And the #debian #bullseye changed to #bookworm.
