There is nothin like kicking a country when it is down. Having stolen their resources, contributed the largest contribution to Global warming with its effects on lives, the environment and little things such as migration, Western vultures are still allowed to screw them further - before there is anything left.
Capitalism is that system of relationships in which human beings want other human beings to do the work so that they can enjoy the profits without doing the work.
A very nice story about why we should start to #repair things more often with the support of local shops than replace them with brand new things that are more crappy than we think:
We can produce more stuff with less labor. So why are we still working?
If we wanted to produce as much as Keynes’s countrymen did in the 1930s, we wouldn’t need everyone to work even 15 hours per week. If you adjust for increases in labour productivity, it could be done in seven or eight hours, 10 in Japan (see graph below). These increases in productivity come from a century of automation and technological advances.
It’s #NewstodonFriday — such a shame it’s been a slow news week! Just to refresh your memories, this is a day to feature work from newsrooms with an active presence in the #Fediverse. If you like what you see in the (long!) thread below, follow the profiles and boost their stories. If you’re a journo or newsroom that we don’t know about or if there’s a newsroom you’d love to put on our radar, please let us know in the comments below.
What’s your perception of a gig worker? Most are relatively young, but @restofworld spoke to 50 who are aged between 50 and 75 as part of its Graying Gig Workers series. Maureen Zephora Khumalo from Johannesburg, South Africa, told Rest of World that friends laugh at her for doing a young people’s job, but “with harsh economic conditions and my children out of jobs, I [may] even work until my eighties because no one can give me money for free.” https://restofworld.org/2024/aging-global-gig-workers/
Have to call this out.
This bill has already passed the house.
A trojan horse of a bill that will undermine the first Amendment and the people's rights.
What's in this bill that fascist Republicans are thrilled about?
"If you use a cloud app, your data is being collected & processed for use in #AI. What happens after that? We don't know, but it'd be crazy to assume you'll not be harmed in some way."

I saw a post from someone saying goodbye to the kids on the school #bus that she had driven for several years and expressing happiness about her new job driving a #garbage truck where she will earn double the income.
Like education, #waste management is a very important thing. But still, the thought that we value driving trash around twice as much as driving kids around... It's a bit bleak.
finds that 25 countries halved multidimensional poverty within 15 Years, but 1.1 billion remain poor.Notably, India saw a remarkable reduction in poverty, with 415 million people exiting poverty within a span of just 15 years (2005/6–19/21). Large numbers of people were lifted out of poverty in China (2010–14, 69 million) and Indonesia (2012–17, 8 million).
Damn you capitalism, don't do your thing, we in the west are supposed to hate capitalism and think it is the most evil thing and cause of all wrong in society. That is what I learn from the meme-crowd on social media and the protest-party people on universities.
Just as liberal democratic capitalism evolved over centuries to achieve success, socialism is also in its early stages of development. There's still experimentation, and there will inevitably be some mistakes along the way. That's no reason to give up on socialism. #socialism#capitalism#liberalism#democracy
