Did you that calDAV has a journal feature? I use it to keep meeting notes stored alongside my calendar; no need to go hunting for notes when you can just click on the date the meeting took place in your email / calendar client! I've been using KDE's Kontact for this on my GNU/Linux PC, and I just discovered @jtx for Android which I use alongside @davx5app.
I recently tried to share a calendar tied to an iCloud account with someone who doesn’t use Apple products. They weren’t able to subscribe. We didn’t dive into full-on troubleshoot and solution mode.
Is there some voodoo that needs to happen?
Create calendar
Share calendar (results in email with link)
Recipient follows link…
They received an error saying they couldn’t subscribe to the calendar.
I feel like I was able to do this before without problem.
Does someone knows a good #task management app for #Linux which can store tasks on a #caldav server (e.g. #Nextcloud) and support sub-tasks. Every program I tried only supported flat lists of tasks
@lexoyo Thank you! I have my calendars on #caldav via my #synology , so that side is covered.
I'd like to move away from native apps, especially because on desktop, any event synced with caldav makes Apple calendar crash as soon as I enter a location 😡
Going to a provider that doesn't meet my #privacy convictions (like those requiring google-based accounts) is a no-go for me.
And going for an app that supports only #apple will get me stuck when I finally jump to #linux .
I'm happy to pay for a subscription if I have what I need and my privacy is respected, but that seems difficult nowadays...
@thunderbird How would I debug #caldav#tasks not being fetched with #thunderbird 115.9.0 (64-bit) #flatpak? New tasks created in Thunderbird are pushed to the CalDAV server but such that are created on other devices are not pulled. The tasks sync fine with Tasks.org on my Android phone. I already tried to look at the Flatpak log, but nothing related shows up.
I have a #CalDAV server running on my NAS. I want to access the calendars on it from #GNOME Calendar. How to achieve this? I haven't found anything neither in Calendar itself nor in "Online Accounts" section in the Settings.
I found an old blog post from 2016 mentioning having to install #Evolution to do this:
It is wild that I'm potentially solving a higgs-bugson in #GNOMECalendar's handling of some broken #CalDAV / #Webcal calendar providers (for servers using hardcore firewalling rules), a 6-years mystery… with a 1-liner fix that just sets a User-Agent string for #GNOME Calendar's #libsoup to identify itself when doing the initial URL validity check 🤨️
Thanks to @s3phy's ingenious network/HTTP troubleshooting!
Ok does anyone else out there host their own #CalDAV server (I use baïkal ) and have they figured out how to add a shared google calendar on there? I figure shared calendars are probably a platform trap, but before I resign myself to just having a google calendar again I figured id see if anyone has rigged something up.
Problem: Thunderbird's calendar loses the ability to update my Google Calendar. I assume this is Google messing with OAuth or Thunderbird specifically to "encourage" direct Google Calendar use.
Solution: Host my own CalDAV server.
This will probably give me two problems (or more).
@VileLasagna Hey, hey, looks like my NAS (a Synology) has a calendar with CalDAV support... since I work from home, I can probably make this work pretty well without opening up anything to the Internet at large.
Hello fellow selfhosters, I tried to find a piece of software that could achieve my goal but maybe I am not searching in the correct areas. So I thought of asking here for suggestions or directions I could take....
In search of software for managing my life (like a helpdesk but in a lite format)
