@cory yeah indie is the way to go, I think. In the Philippines we have some artists who came together to start their own publisher/label names. They don’t have the capital for marketing as other big labels but at least they get most for what they produce.
@ayo I think, given current circumstances, that's the healthiest approach — I'd love to see a more holistic alternative to Bandcamp that isn't subject to serial acquisitions. Even buying digital music is a challenge lately — a lot isn't on Bandcamp, some is on 7Digital and there's Amazon as an absolute last resort. It's frustrating as a fan and must be even more so as an artist.
Has Spotify’s loyal user base given it the confidence to raise its prices for the second time in a year?
According to research firm Antenna, Spotify’s listeners are the least likely to cancel among any of the major video or audio streaming services in the U.S., with its growth and cancellation rates “much, much better” than its peers, reports @bloomberg.
While overall subscriber growth is slowing across all streaming services, last year Spotify managed to produce its best year of user growth and second-best year of subscriber growth. Can it sustain that and keep its subscriber base engaged at its new prices?
So #Spotify's CEO apparently wrote something starting with
"Today, with the cost of creating content being close to zero…".
🤬. ⬅️ me after spending the whole weekend + Friday night + the days for preparing this weekend... with creating 1 tiny hour of my radio show based on the content of others.
I think to become a well recognized CEO, like Daniel EK or Elon Musk, the most important skill is to be qualified to form braindead stupid sentences and publish them with confidence (I think that's why CEOs like "AI" so much. it's a soul brother).
@GeofSux666 sorry, never tried anything else, too deeply entrenched after 18 years of use. Tried Tidal and realized I would have to spend weeks recreating playlists.
having been a spotify customer since my university days which stretches back well over a decade at this point they just lost me. #spotifyt even be bothered to defend their car thing decision with anything other than a boilerplate copy paste response and then just closed the chat.
613 days of ownership and a perfectly functional device is now garbage. this needs to be made illegal. sunsetting of devices needs to be legislated that they are unlocked and made open. i'd love to use this hardware as a home assistant dashboard or something.
@ironicbadger did you buy it in the US or UK? If the US, I'd be inclined to drop a note to the state attorney regarding deceptive or fraudulent business practices.
Did they close the chat? I've never had the support person close a chat on me. They always wait for me to close it.
If you bought a #spotify car thing you should ask for a refund. If you didn't know, they're bricking every single one and sending tons and tons of e-waste to the landfill. It's truly despicable.
At least get your refund, go to their support chat and mention the car thing and a refund. The chat bot will say some crap, I just said "your chat bot did not answer my question", got a real person who asked for a receipt (should hopefully be in your email as a PDF from Spotify) and offered a refund.
Ten album co wydał zespół Bring Me The Horizon jest na prawdę dobry i podoba mi sie. Na pierwszym miejscu zawsze bedzie sempiternal...teraz tak mysle czy that's the spirit czy ten human lepszy 😃🤍 #bmth#spotify#MastodonMusic#MusicAlbum
TL;DR Podcaster published on Anchor, moved to another host and back (due to 'wrong download numbers'), in the process got locked out of their own podcast and lost 3k 'followers' on Spotify. If those folks had been subscribed to RSS in a proper app rather than follow through some proprietary system, there would've been much less damage. Lesson: don't tell people to follow on Spotify.
@ai6yr maybe they fired the team that worked on the software and they're going to shut down the servers rather than bother to do anything that costs money.
@douglasvb Oh, I KNOW how that works, just saying if you were doing it right you'd not e-waste it all, and you'd make them usable to someone instead. (Of course, if it doesn't make the company money, they won't do it)
