I’ve been watching it in bits and pieces today due to health issues and I have to say, this is a must watch for anyone interested in the NES in Europe.
I’m quite knowledgeable myself on the topic, and yet I’ve learned some fascinating facts today.
@bill one thing that threw me off at first was how Pal B game were not compatible with Pal A consoles.
I have several French games myself as well as some small box German releases and they all work.
But then I remembered that decades ago,I had my NES modded so I could play games from the US.
So that has to be it. 😅
@heyfluxay , still one if my favourite Nintendo games and fighters in general. Super easy to pick up, but the skill ceiling esp. competitive online is very high.
@hook the online lobby system was a blast too with friends, i definitely grinded my way up thru the online mode a bit, but then splatoon 2 came out and ate this games lunch a bit :(
@renwillis IIRC this character was always to some degree gender ambiguous, much like Birdo. That's kinda what gets my goose about these moral panics, this wasn’t an issue 20 years ago when the game came out, but because of culture war nonsense we have to deal with people getting upset that a minor character in a remake of a 20 year old spin off Mario game is explicitly made trans, who was never cis to begin with.
@konstantinosd I think what really helped killing it was all the safety guards added that made it non portable, a bit like the Wii U was limited to being tethered to something, and Switch solved that issue. The screen wasn't good but I think it would have done better if not for the other thing.
Back during the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U eras, Nintendo fans were constantly complaining about how Nintendo were selling old games on the VC individually and saying that they need to do a subscription service instead.
But now that they're doing that on the Switch, they're complaining about the subscription service and saying they should sell these old games individually again.
What do you even fucking want Nintendo fans, or do you just wanna complain?

that's just backwards af. Much of what I saw was that maybe prices could be better, but not so much of a push for a subscription service. In the long run that's gonna cost you more than paying for what you want once after all...
