Let’s all try to be clearer about the hundreds of millions of dollars Trump has been ordered to pay in New York.

It represents the “disgorgement” of “ill-gotten gains.” These are legal terms. This is money he would not have obtained without committing fraud. The court has carefully itemized it. He has to give it up.

@ku if he wants to appeal, he has to put the money in escrow first. And he can’t pardon himself because this is a state court, not federal, and civil, not criminal. Not to say he wouldn’t try.
