First track in the can! Danny Gotham and I are hoping to release our new album sometime in late summer. Mostly acoustic instruments, #mandolin, #classical and steel string #guitar, #ukulele, #lute, a little electric guitar and lap steel, too. Nice variety of material, too! Big honor to get to do this with Danny, who’s one of the best pickers this side of the Mississippi.

Have this #AllmanBrothers tribute gig coming up in #Raleigh at the Lincoln on Saturday so I sat down with my #dobro last night to make sure the internal Fishman still worked. Of course, it didn’t. So, a little heavy duty double sided tape and an old Lawrence and I’m back in business. Sounds pretty great, too!

My contribution to a student recital in Kolkata (no I did not travel) this coming weekend. A short bandish (composition) in #raag Kafi by my teacher Debashish Bhattacharya.

Kafi is parallel to the Dorian mode in Western music, but with rules for what notes can be "shaken" or glided.

The instrument is my Pushpa Veena, which is sort of a hybrid between slide guitar and sarod.

Pollution will be curbed under a #climatechange rule from the EPA -esp. beneficial to poor, Black & Latino communities. It'll require manufacturers to slash emissions of GHG from new trucks, delivery vans & buses. The rule will not mandate the adoption of a particular 0-emission tech, rather -will require manufacturers to reduce emissions by choosing from several cleaner technologies: electric trucks, hybrid trucks & hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles-.

Some really wonderful news in my musical world. My best bud and bandmate Danny Gotham, an absolute monster #guitarist with over 21 commercial releases, just asked if I wanted to do a full duet #acoustic album with him!

We've played live gigs for years and have done a few duets on his past records, but now we're going to do a whole album! #Woot!

Already starting to plan the tracks.

I’ve had my #lute for about a month now. Progress is slow but I’m finally at least able to find the bass strings without having to stop and curse.

Here’s a very simple 16th century English piece. Still clunky and uneven but getting there. Playing with no nails for the first time in over 45 years is also a challenge!

In 1940, Paramount released "The Three Stooges" short "You Nazty Spy!". At that point in time, the U.S. had not yet entered what would become World War II, and the pro-Hitler German American "Bund" was strong after its largest rally the year before in New York City.

In the short, the Stooges portray three simpletons recruited to lead a dictatorship in "Moronika", with Moe as the Hitler character, Curly as the Goring character, and Larry as the Goebbels character. Their flag was a pair of twisted snakes resembling a swastika, their slogan was "Moronika for Morons" (like Hitler's "Germany for Germans").

As a further dig, the Stooges, who were all Jewish, threw in a variety of Yiddish in the dialogue.

Some powerful congressmen who were either pro-Hitler or pro-neutrality were incensed at this short, but Paramount went ahead and released it anyway, resulting in Moe being the first American actor to portray Hitler in a released film production.

The Stooges were a remarkable trio. One of the high points of my life was meeting Larry Fine. He was in a wheelchair from a stroke, but still had his sense of humor.

We shall never see their like again.
