A GORGEOUS retelling of the historical events of Spanish conquistadors under Hernán Cortés entering Tenochtitlan and the court of emperor Moctezuma.

This novella reimagines a complex world that many of us have some passing familiarity with. It's trippy hallucinogenic; it thrives in court politics and religious variety, color, aroma.

Think multicultural Game of Throes meets Hunter S. Thompson packed into a tight 220 pages. TIP: Don't skip the author's notes to the translator. @bookstodon

@patl @bookstodon Thoroughly enjoyed this book, but why oh why did he not use quotation marks? It got pretty confusing at times.

@patl @bookstodon I haven't read it either. This one was gifted to me by a friend who had just read it.

I've been thinking of finally reading some Stephen King, but no idea where to start.

Go for one of the likes of his famous work, like the Shining or the Green Mile? Or something lesser known?

The Stand didn't even crack Forbes' Top 10 list of Stephen King books, and I'm curious as to how this miscarriage of justice came about.

Sad but I guess not surprising. Star Trek producer says that the franchise is not concerned about science and just pads out the dialog with random technobabble.

And cuttingly adds "And who cares…Who really cares?"

farbel,
@farbel@mas.to avatar

@galaxy_map Science fiction by nature requires suspension of disbelief. Star Trek uses hard science when possible, but come on, warp drive, teleporter technology, time travel ... Technobabble is unavoidable.

Like absolutely vote for Joe Biden, there is literally no alternative if you want any hope of maintaining a liberal democracy in the US.

Understand that Joe is much more of a corporate puppet than even Obama was. He is not going to lead us into any democratic promised land.

He's a stop gap to keep fascists from completely seizing power. That's all.

farbel,
@farbel@mas.to avatar

@Mister_Eel @Adam_Cadmon1 So because you believe Biden supports genocide, you will accept a literal baby Hitler as president. On principle? How many ways can you spell cognitive dissonance?

farbel,
@farbel@mas.to avatar

@etherdiver @Mister_Eel @Adam_Cadmon1 What part of "But then again, all of this doesn’t really matter because he is supporting genocide" do you think I failed to comprehend?

Do you use a cover artist or design your own covers? Share your cover art.

I used to hire cover artists. Meanwhile, however, I had some bad experiences and gained more skills myself. I surely do not range among the top cover artists - but truth be told: We all know how hard it is to make some good money with books. Thus, I've done the newest ones myself. The latest is for #OdysseyToThePromisedLand after some very good input from folks here.

Exciting space-discovery alert!

Gliese 12 b is an Earth-size planet orbiting in the temperate zone around a nearby, stable red dwarf star. It's a Rosetta Stone world that will tell us a lot about how many superficially earthlike planets actually have the right conditions for life.

Are we rare? Are we common? Let's find out.

https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/news/2024/nasas-tess-finds-a-world-sized-between-earth-and-venus

farbel,
@farbel@mas.to avatar

@coreyspowell I did deep research for my two sci-fi novels to find a likely location. First I looked for planets we had identified in the Goldilocks zone. Every one was orbiting a red dwarf, and thus tidally locked. I didn't want to deal with that, so I picked a sol type star instead and postulated planets around it.

I need some new science fiction to read, who has some suggestions? I don't like military sci-fi. For reference, my favorite series is the Expanse, I also enjoyed Scalzi's Collapsing Empire, I love Robert Charles Wilson's books. I mostly enjoy space operas and unique stories about technology, for example I really liked the recent book Mountain in the Sea about AI and intelligent octopus. Suggestions from the awesome Bookstodon community? @bookstodon #Bookstodon #Scifi #ScienceFiction

For those who are bitching about President Biden and saying the Gaza situation will cost him the election, WTF do you propose?! Third party has ZERO chance! Have you learned anything from 2016?!?!?! The Orange shit stain suggests that Netanayu "finish the job!". How dare anyone say they or both sides are the same. If that's your belief, unfollow me now!!!

farbel,
@farbel@mas.to avatar

@sb @FrankFrank @otownKim It's Biden not Sanders because Sanders lost in 2016 when I voted for him and in 2020 when I didn't. Disappointing as it may be, most people and most Democrats are not progressives, and a huge number of young progressives neither vote nor run for office.
