This side of the disk would play the game upside down (saw that in action with an original last week at #OzKFest2023) – apocryphally, if someone rang Brøderbund support and said “My Karateka is upside down!”, the techs would calmly respond “Oh, that’s because the disk is upside down, turn it over to fix!” 🤣

I seem to recall Jordan Mechner stumbled upon an easy reverse method and thought it would be fun.

@chrisod @thatKomputerKat not sure if it’s AI or not, but do a Google search for “lorem ipsum pagemaker” (no quotes) and you get numerous pages regurgitating the same basic text, including some government ones (in Aus and US).

Compromised WP sites? Something else? I didn’t think to add /wp-admin to their base domain (I was just looking for old school PageMaker’s lorem ipsum text), but I might try that today out of curiosity.

I had a package I'd ordered sitting in Inverness for about a week saying ‘waiting for future pickup, no delivery date available’.

Yesterday I queried it. They raised an investigation.

Today it's supposedly been delivered to Dundee. Which is 140 miles in the wrong direction from Inverness. And nearly 300 miles from me.

So cool. Thanks guys.

    Proofreading tip from my former life as a senior engineer then department head. Read your documents in a different form than you prepared them. If you print, print a copy and read before distribution, read it at the printer! If you are paperless, read the document after generating the pdf (or whatever). If all fails, put it away and re-read after lunch/the next day.

    The different form helps you see stuff you missed in libre office/word/spreadsheet.

    @zappy @rcriii it has taken me literally decades to feel comfortable self-proofing. I still usually step away for a while between writing and proofing. I rarely evade revisions, even if I felt satisfied when first writing material. While I infrequently find errors in material I have “finalised”, it does happen, and I know I will never completely avoid them.

    Disclaimer: This toot does not apply to toots, where I too frequently find errors when frequenting past toots, to my frequent regret.
