I didn’t have much luck at the weekend with #botanical #photography - it was rainy and I had a lot of work to do. I want to share, nevertheless, a mobile phone photo of the big #Datura inoxia which showed up between the newly planted #vine #plants in our vineyard… It’s unlikely it came with the vine plants as those arrived without soil, and also the Senior said he has seen Daturas growing on our land in different places before, so it seems to be somewhat established here. May I remind you, that’s not the #Mediterranean, that’s the #Elbe Valley in #Saxony, Germany. (Note: reposted.)

Main reason why I created #elsica.social was that I followed and now miss the many small highly specialized groups on FB, such as Really Rare #Plants, #Cacti in their natural habitats, #Botanical, #Macro and #Wildlife #Photography, Mini #Orchids, #Mineralogy, #Travel and #Geography etc. I'd like to provide the platform to establish those in the #Fediverse. @curiocritters You indeed can not move your followers and may lose some but can import your follows. Generally, I would recommend to create an additional account here for testing purposes, you still can import your follows at a later stage. Friendica serves a slightly different purpose than Mastodon, so I have both, although they perfectly well speak to each other. Friendica has some more features such as speaking to Diaspora or better tooling for showing discussion threads etc. which makes it a little more useful for communities in my opinion.

@Rasta Fair points, you do not necessarily need to be on the same instance to follow certain interests or connect with a community of people across instances. It does, however, provide for a nicer local timeline and for this particular instance I want to use the Groups (currently called Forums) feature that Friendica implements nicely much more going forward but will try to get some critical base mass before doing so.

Is posting videos to Friendica unsupported at the moment? Web upload seems to work for a moment but the file is lost afterwards; upload via #tusky ends in a error message like "entity could not be processed "... .

@prairiedog #Friendica is fully inter-operational with #Mastodon and other #Fediverse-Software, you can read, react and comment on Mastodon posts from your Friendica account and vice versa. You even can use most of the apps for Mastodon on #iOS and #Android. Friendica has, however, additional functions when used in the browser - both, on PC and mobile, for example groups and community-related features, more granular permissions, photo albums, forums, no character limit, formatting of text etc. If you will, you could compare it with #Facebook / FB Groups or #Tumblr while Mastodon is more like #Twitter. Hope this helps.
