It just clicked in my brain. What I haven't been able to articulate about why I'm so anxious about Recall. I'm sure others have already gotten to where I am.

It's worse than "a system that tracks everything you do" and stores that info in a basic database that could be easily compromised.
It's worse than a nanny surveillance tool for companies to spy on their employees.

It's inescapable.

It doesn't matter if I make a dozen "how to disable recall" tutorials. The second YOUR data shows up on someone ELSE'S screen, it's in THEIR recall database.

It won't matter if you're a master expert specialist. You can't account for EVERY other computer you've ever interacted with. If a family member looks up an old email with your personal data in it, your data is now at risk.

If THEIR system is compromised YOUR data is at risk.

I just went from "vague feeling of unease" to "actively writing templates to canvas elected officials, regulators, and attorneys general."

Pixel 8a vs OnePlus 12R! These might be the best two mid-ranger phones in the USA right now!

This is what happens with Meta or any other data-brokering company. And it’s why we need data privacy rights.

It’s not just “don’t use it.” These companies build profiles based on data they obtain from others, or the “negative space” around you.

It’s the worst kind of exploitation.

Samsung is facing a labor strike for the first time ever. Apple is union busting. The FCC cancelled its affordable internet program. AI is all the rage with investors, but no one is using it.

Android trackers are FINALLY here! And, we should chat announcements at Computex!

Let's get our tech week started right!

Early Access on Patreon: Android Location Trackers are FINALLY shipping!
https://www.patreon.com/posts/pebblebee-and-105412292

I ordered these LITERALLY a YEAR AGO to the day, and they JUST ARRIVED!
Apple stalled the Google location tracker network for as long as they could, but now we FINALLY have some competition for AirTags!

SomeGadgetGuy,
@SomeGadgetGuy@techhub.social avatar

The saddest part though, was reading this little apology note in the Chipolo box.
These trackers have been ready to go, but just sitting in warehouses for months.
Consumers wont know that Apple is the reason they got delayed, and will blame the manufacturers and Google.

"Ugh, Why Android doesn't JUST WORK???"

These manufacturers likely can't criticize Apple if they still want to sell Apple compatible accessories...

Apple is partnering with OpenAI to improve Apple's lagging AI strategy, but we still don't know what the deal looks like.
https://somegadgetguy.com/b/45u

Is Apple paying OpenAI? Is OpenAI paying Apple?

This is a tough partnership for Apple, as the optics on AI in general run counter to the marketing Apple has poured into "privacy".

Shareholders must be REALLY excited though...

OnePlus 12 Camera Conclusion! https://somegadgetguy.com/b/45r

The exciting thing about tech, we're seeing a race to get better camera tech into lower and lower priced phones. OnePlus is battling well against iPhone Pros and Galaxy Ultras, but at SIGNIFICANTLY lower prices!

A whole slate of new laptops are coming, and of course, manufacturers are trying to impress us with THINNESS! What about test driving a machine at the complete OPPOSITE of the thinness spectrum? https://somegadgetguy.com/b/45T

It's so rad to do a sponsored video like this, and the first thing they ask is "Can you blast our laptop with a hose?"

It's big, thicc, and chunky, but there are SO MANY things on this Getac I wish I had on "regular" thin laptops...

Samsung Scummy Repair Contract Forces Shops to Destroy YOUR Phone! iFixit Drops Samsung Partnership!

Samsung forces repair shops to sign a TERRIBLE contract, that requires technicians to destroy your phone if they find non-Samsung parts in your device! iFixit is dropping their partnership with Samsung.

Why isn’t this bigger news?

The newest most powerful chips from Intel and AMD don't qualify for Microsoft's newest CoPilot+ AI branding. We're already seeing INCREDIBLE deals on crazy powerful PCs, because of all the AI hype! We want a future of repairable gadgets and less ewaste.
5-7 years of software support doesn't mean anything if we can't keep the hardware running well for 7 years.
Glad to see iFixit didn't go quiet on this one.

https://www.ifixit.com/News/96162/were-ending-our-samsung-collaboration

I've been trying to highlight Samsung's scummy business practices for a couple years now, but when they can't even make a support contract work with iFixit, it's a REAL bad look.

Funnily enough, Microsoft threw AMD and Intel under the bus.
NONE of the current selling "AI" PCs qualify for the "CoPilot" branding.
Who knows, maybe you don't want that new Microsoft Recall feature on your system anyway?

Watching this laptop buying guide by @SomeGadgetGuy after the recent announcement of Microsoft's Surface running on the new ARM chips from Qualcomm

Like him, I too am interested in all the new Laptops not only by Microsoft but the many OEMs (HP. Dell, Asus, Acer etc) that will hit the market in a short time, not for the AI features but for our usual day-to-day computing on devices that are now on a different architecture that will have long-lasting battery, run silently, and have plenty of performance for our tasks.

Also, looking into the chips themselves and what specs they're paired with the system RAM depending upon core counts, and performances

Boeing shareholders approved a $33M pay package for CEO Dave Calhoun, despite overseeing huge losses and safety problems.

It's the biggest package ever given to a Boeing CEO.

Calhoun is resigning by year's end. Guess what he gets then?

A $45 million golden parachute.

Unreal.

Talking to Marie in the kitchen and we hear a strange rustling on our back patio. She opens the curtain, and is greeted by a young owl full wing spread knocking over stuff we had stacked back there. I got a couple shots through the dirty sliding door and screen. DAMN nature. You freaky!

OnePlus 12 WiFi Mystery! Why is my phone connecting to an Network?

https://somegadgetguy.com/b/45G

CONTROVERSY! It's a little concerning. My phone keeps trying to connect to a mystery network, listed as an ISP WiFi that (to my knowledge) doesn't do business here in California. Has anyone else seen something like this? What's going on?
