It's really a shame just how many anti-capitalists are out there spending their time and their voice trying to predict just how soon #capitalism will fail. It's already failed! I am more anti-capitalist than most, but I do not see capitalism going anywhere anytime soon. There is nothing wrong with being a realist.
I come across so many articles online where the pipe dreams of anti-capitalists are really no different than all the tone deaf articles that #capitalism will save the world. There is so much bad writing online. It is my belief that is why #academics need to worry less about publications and see blogging as a public service.
A science fiction obsession led me to psychological war. I spent the past three years researching and writing a book about the history of psychological warfare in the United States, and it's coming out in early June. Not all the gems I discovered could be crammed into the final manuscript, and I've been dying to share what I found in the archives ... check out my latest newsletter to see some amazing treasures from a history that's rarely told. https://buttondown.email/thehypothesis/archive/how-a-science-fiction-obsession-led-me-to/
@annaleen I'm sorry, I misremembered. I meant to say Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine (I read them at the same time a while back now). The Shock Doctrine is the one more relevant to your research. But be warned, it is not an easy read. Lots of triggers.
Part of the collections of practical solutions to climate change (which most people refuse to adopt due to convenience, time availability, peer pressure, having to work too much, and consumerism). #laundry#climate
Because I had a meeting in France before visiting my family in the UK, my main flight home to Tokyo leaves from Paris. I’m therefore taking the Eurostar from London to Paris! I remember the channel tunnel being constructed while i was at school, but this is the first time taking the train 🚂🧜🏾♀️🌊
No lie: I’m excited. And I’ve packed a cheese and pickle sandwich 🥪 and a bottle of ginger beer.
I think I’d spent the last 15 years of working life being somewhat embarrassed that I have a social sciences education, not a STEM one, but all things considered, with the current challenges and questions posed to the world by #AI, my social sciences background may in fact be essential for helping me make sense of anything.
Also a reminder for folks in different time zones that I just set up this resource, on precisely this topic: https://publicsectorai.tech/
Wish there was some institution entirely dedicated to researching and experimenting on teaching people how to learn and how to teach each other, especially online (not current school of education ones that are more focused on teacher training on teaching to the test)
Like an institution solely dedicated to pedagogical creativity and pedagogical innovation for artists, designers, engineers where they publish open access research on how to break down complicated topics via interesting exercises
@impactology Something like an adaption of the SNCC’s Freedom Schools, but for interdisciplinary studies. Still, programs that benefit society and human progress.
