It's really a shame just how many anti-capitalists are out there spending their time and their voice trying to predict just how soon will fail. It's already failed! I am more anti-capitalist than most, but I do not see capitalism going anywhere anytime soon. There is nothing wrong with being a realist.

Richard,
@Richard@geekdom.social avatar

I come across so many articles online where the pipe dreams of anti-capitalists are really no different than all the tone deaf articles that #capitalism will save the world. There is so much bad writing online. It is my belief that is why #academics need to worry less about publications and see blogging as a public service.

Janeway is at her best when she is looking after others like here when she is looking after The Doctor's needs.

I never understood why Kes is such an disliked character. Kes is brilliant. Unique. Jennifer Lien was great. @allstartrek

This is still early enough in the series that Garrett Wang had not yet found a way to express Harry Kim's character, or, at least he still seems uncomfortable acting. Still very much a novice. But that didn't last long. Garrett Wang perfected the character quickly. @allstartrek

I should pause. I'm streaming, obviously. Do you have commercials on H&I?

"Eye of the Needle" stands out in because they show Kate Mulgrew in a nighty with her hair down and that is with Kate Mulgrew's insistence that a strong women leader need not be sexualized, hence Kate's conflict with Jeri Ryan. This is the only time in the 7 seasons of Voyager that they got away with attempting to make Kate sexually appealing. Kate Mulgrew did a great job preventing them from doing that. A true feminist. @allstartrek

Alexander may not be a warrior, but I think he does prove that he is brave. In J. G. Hertzler's DS9 books, Left Hand of Destiny, Books 1 and 2, Alexander has developed a great deal. And in a short amount of time.

Seeing Dukat try to give Kira a dress makes me think of the documentary, What We Left Behind, where Marc Alaimo says that Dukat desired Kira and he desired Nana Visitor. Marc Alaimo said it in a really sleazy way, too. It was very much in the spirit of Dukat. @allstartrek

My host informed me that it is possible to integrate into my websites to take the pressure off my hosting account CPU (if I understand this correctly), which is already high because I upgraded my services to prevent problems with my websites not loading. It only happens every once in a while, but still.

I thought Cloudflare would be used before hosting, not after. So I am very confused. Going to take a while to wrap my head around this.

A science fiction obsession led me to psychological war. I spent the past three years researching and writing a book about the history of psychological warfare in the United States, and it's coming out in early June. Not all the gems I discovered could be crammed into the final manuscript, and I've been dying to share what I found in the archives ... check out my latest newsletter to see some amazing treasures from a history that's rarely told.

@annaleen Did your research lead you to read Nancy Fraser's Cannibal Capitalism?

Richard,
@Richard@geekdom.social avatar

@annaleen I'm sorry, I misremembered. I meant to say Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine (I read them at the same time a while back now). The Shock Doctrine is the one more relevant to your research. But be warned, it is not an easy read. Lots of triggers.

Because I had a meeting in France before visiting my family in the UK, my main flight home to Tokyo leaves from Paris. I’m therefore taking the Eurostar from London to Paris! I remember the channel tunnel being constructed while i was at school, but this is the first time taking the train 🚂🧜🏾‍♀️🌊

No lie: I’m excited. And I’ve packed a cheese and pickle sandwich 🥪 and a bottle of ginger beer.

Richard,
