Später November (translation below)

ein grau-gewölk vor blau
verdichtet sich zu flächigem
läuft dann in etwas helles aus
das ahnen lässt
dass es einst licht und warm
gewesen ist

der herbst ist tief
er will mich innehalten
und leise atme ich ein Ja
zum abschied von der sehn-sucht selber
um wieder einmal
wesentlich
zu werden

Late November

a grey in front of blue
condenses to a pallid layer
expanding into something bright
that gives a hint
where light and warmth
once have been

the fall is deep,
it wants to put me to rest
and quietly I breathe a Yes
to a say a good-bye
to longing itself
to once again
become
essential

Wangerooge Westturm Lighthouse in Purple Fog, 1988

I couldn't see most of the East-Frisian island of Wangerooge, when I had to visit it in November 1988...

The Westturm (west tower) lighthouse, part of a youth hostel, was built in 1932, it's historic predecessors destroyed by the sea.

Red beech tree with multiple branches

This amazing beech tree grows in a "Hutewald" - an ancient common forest pasture. Cows from a nearby village were put to graze among the trees - pigs to fatten on acorns and beechnuts. This prevented the rejuvenation of the forest. The bites of the grazing animals often caused bizarre growth of the remaining trees. In this case, just multiple branches. Even cednturies after their last use, these common pastures still can be recognized.

Digital photography of an assemlage (seal skull, slide projector lenses).

For halloween, another eerie image. Reference to me being a vision-impaired photographer intentional.

A gorge-ous inhabatitant of the forest

I hardly ever post images of qnimals. But I could not resist this inhabitant of the forest gorge I currently post images from.
The fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra) has always been my favorite amphibian. It signals its toxicity with bright colors. Salamanders are found in European deciduous forests, especially those with creeks, because their larvae develop in fast running water.

Trunk of a Gnarly Oak, Seasons Changing

I visited the gnarly oaks of the Edersee region several times. The yellow image was taken in October, the red one beginning of November, the green image was photographed in early May.

Environmental conditions on the steep slopes of the northern side of the Edersee barrage are very harsh. The microclimate is very dry.The greywhacke rubble keeps sliding down, exposing the roots and bending the trunks of century old oaks.

Old German Train Station, 2008

The train station of a small city. Since than it has been renovated.

This entrance to an underpass looked eeriely abandoned, when I had to wait, in the early dawn. The actual tunnel the led to the station looked and smelled worse. Not a single soul in the station, not even a vending machine for coffee.

Inside Out Orange Peel

I played with a pressed out Sanguinella orange peel.

This could become part of a new series "MetaMorphoGenesis", about the transformation of form and images.

I'm drifting from representational photography to more arcane, artsy work.

Martin_Liebermann,

@futurebird Hi, thanks for the praise!
Technically, it's not a macro, buta close up. Neither did I employ any macro-specific techniques. I am not a macro specialist, but being a pro photographer, I have used therm occasionally.

Regarding inscts: I photographed few arthropods , just the occasional nectar-sucking bee, beetle or butterfly, or spiders. Never did ants!

But I love the works of the stunning artist/photographer Maisie Cousins. She takes grossly sweet images, some with ants or other insects.
Take a look at https://www.maisiecousins.com

Your myrmecian friends will love her, too. She seems to make sure their gaster is full :))

zeitspur - images from decayed glass negatives

I inherited about hundred 9x12 cm glass negatives found in my late grandfathers cellar. A flood in the 1980ies badly damaged the film emulsion.

The images portrayed live in a small German village just before WW II. Subjects show friends and family, but also Nazi party meetings and members of the SA.

But decay treated them all the same, be it a wedding or a meeting of Nazi comrades.

I see these images as a metaphor for remembering and amnesia alike. I explored them under a microscope.

I have not finished the project.

There is a dissonance between the "beauty of decay" and what the images actually show: the very ordinary life in Germany on the eve of war and atrocities.

What do you think? I'd love some input on this!

Dark field microscopic photography from a decayed glass plate negative. The gelatin emulsion is partyally cracked. Clay residues from a flood that caused the destruction of the image are smeared on the glass. They are orientated diagonally.

Martin_Liebermann,

@islieb

Blinde könnten so deine Comics per Vorlesegerät wahrnehmen.

    Martin_Liebermann,

    @islieb @isfies
