I decided to check out the new Lords of the Fallen and...
... it's actually good? Like, it's /pretty damn good/. I am getting Demon's Souls vibes from it. Old-school, unforgiving-but-fair, weird as heck mechanics that really feel well thought out, and that wonderful dread of a new and scary world to explore. It's completely unashamed of where it takes its inspiration from and I am here for it.
I'm only a few hours in thus far so my opinion might change, but... I am really, really enjoying this thus far. How come I have heard no one talk about this one?
Happy Monday, y'all. How are we doing? Any new #gameost releases I should be aware of? What is #gamedev working on? Send me your links and screenshots! (And hey, if you are working on an #indiegame and you don't have a person on sound/music yet - talk to me!)
@Nifflas One the one had you have the danger of GAS, but as long as the gear sparks joy and makes you more creative (and you have the space and funds for it) I think it's ultimately good :)
Not a fan of this, but at least for now creating users here (mastodon.gamedev.place) will require mod approval before you can start posting. Way too many automatically created spam usernames registering otherwise :(
I am begging people, talk to your artists that you appreciate.
Give them some encouragement. Tell them what you love. Gush a bit even.
If it wasn’t for some random DM in my inbox this morning, I’d be taking my internal compulsion to close up shop a lot more seriously tonight than I am.
Artists are tired, exhausted even.
I am lucky to do this as a glorified hobby.
Others’ abilities to get bread on the table depend on coin that isn’t coming in.
@jessica This, one hundred percent. "But I don't know how to talk about music!" Just please, for the love of all good things in this world, say SOMETHING. Nothing is as awful as sharing your art, a culmination of sometimes decades of hard work, just to have it land quietly in a void.
There is time to say something. It doesn't have to be an in-depth critical analysis. It just has to be something.
Second Graviton Ability - Surge. Consumes all Distortion levels in the target area, dealing damage per level. Additionally, it consumes Suppression field debuff, crushing affected targets against the ground. Targets immune to mass manipulation are dealt additional damage.
Tomorrow-ish (maybe Saturday), we will take a look at the third one. Either Rift or Collapse.
So Zelda is becoming a movie, huh? I hope they don't focus too much of Link's character arc! In the best Zeldas, link is just the happiest when exploring, kicking monster butt, wearing stunning outfits, smashing pots and occasionally helping people.
In my headcanon, he's in his element when doing it and loves every second. So if the story focuses on struggle and personal growth, it should focus on other characters for that aspect.
@Nifflas I want the movie to be... basically about anything BUT Link. He's never really the protagonist in any of the games. Hell, in BotW (and TotK) in particular, Zelda is the actual protagonist in my opinion. I guess we'll see. I'm cautiously optimistic because I genuinely enjoyed the Mario movie.
@Nifflas That last part was almost entirely nonsense to me but I look forward to a time when it won't be! And right now I am sticking to multiplying it in with my character's speed, that seems safest x)
