Hey #gamedev if you're making a gritty #soulslike game, let me compose for it. I am dying to flex my dark fantasy orchestra skills and it would be an honor to score your game. <3
I decided to check out the new Lords of the Fallen and...
... it's actually good? Like, it's /pretty damn good/. I am getting Demon's Souls vibes from it. Old-school, unforgiving-but-fair, weird as heck mechanics that really feel well thought out, and that wonderful dread of a new and scary world to explore. It's completely unashamed of where it takes its inspiration from and I am here for it.
I'm only a few hours in thus far so my opinion might change, but... I am really, really enjoying this thus far. How come I have heard no one talk about this one?
Happy Monday, y'all. How are we doing? Any new #gameost releases I should be aware of? What is #gamedev working on? Send me your links and screenshots! (And hey, if you are working on an #indiegame and you don't have a person on sound/music yet - talk to me!)
@FredrikHathen I'm making a weeeird game! Not ready to send screen shots yet. Want to playtest it tho? It'd take about 30 minutes, screen share + discord would be a good option!
It's been a while so here's some chiptune music I wrote (and finished my last stream on Twitch). It's for my in-progress Mega Man fan game thingy I'm doing. Say hello to Blacksmith Woman's stage! I hope you enjoy!
Starting the year off strong; here's a Robot Master track I wrote for my upcoming Mega Man fan game (which I am making only so I have a reason to learn Godot). Say hello to Gladiator Woman!
Honestly, Motoi Sakuraba is living proof that the circle of fifths is just a suggestion and you can modulate to any key from any other key whenever the hell you feel like it
@FredrikHathen Direct modulation is certainly common in Japanese VGM. Even without it, you can modulate to any key from any other key whenever you want: check out "Modulation" by Max Reger sometime, which is a catalog of strategies to smoothly modulate between basically any two keys. 😁
@FredrikHathen this is a good video. It's bad. It's weirdly hostile. I don't like the tone. He's also wrong about some things and corrects himself in the comments.
So, #fedi, what's the best available #mastodon#android#app on the Play Store? I've tried the "official" one and it is lacking a lot of features I have in this... browser page thing I also have, such as easily accessing your favorites and bookmarks, and checking stuff that's trending across instances. I'd like the most feature-rich app, and again, Android only. Thanks in advance! <3
@FredrikHathen@moshidon is the best for me. Pretty UI, lots of supported features, etc. I love how it allows you to pin hastags or lists into your timelines (aka make them as accessible as switching to local/federated timeline).
Watched a Thomas Goss video about Ravel orchestrating his own piano music today and /holy shit/ do I have a lot to learn. It's staggering, but also exhilarating. The techniques he employed are ridiculously awesome. I just wish there was a way to get a full orchestra recording, with the sheet music, and the ability to solo instruments and sections to hear each technique in action - the full texture is of course the end goal, but as a training exercise it would be so amazing. #orchestration
@FredrikHathen Thomas Goss probably referenced it (I know he's read Alexander's work), but there is a nice book from Peter Lawrence Alexander called "How Ravel Orchestrated: Mother Goose Suite" that's worth checking out. It has a catalog of techniques, detailed analysis, and electronic scoring considerations.
@Taffer You know, for original music at least, that might very well be the answer. I know of people who release books and audiobooks through itch as well. It might be tougher to release game remix albums through it due to licensing, but... it's worth looking into.
Stumbled across a nasty comment about my voice, accent, and acting, and now it's 4:40 AM and I'm alone in my bed and I'm sad.
I'm aware I shouldn't care. It's just that my brain so desperately wants to please everyone, and it will tie itself into a knot to do it, and when it sees negative comments it takes it as a judgment of my entire life up to this point.
Hey, uh, folks.
You don't have to.
But some positive vibes would be cool. If you want.
@FredrikHathen I'm glad I could help :) I should have used "It Follows" as an example tho, it's one of my favorite movies ever and it's critically acclaimed, yet user reviews on google gives it more 1s than 5s.
