One of the fun things about working on Humanities Commons is that I do see a lot of the CORE deposits and blog posts that get posted as I'm on the site working. This post - "The Silverdome West Experiment, 1992" posted by media preservation librarian Matthew Wilcox on the Media Preservation blog on MSU Commons is well timed as the final for the Women's World Cup final is coming up on Saturday.

In the 1994 world cup (held in the US) the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, MI hosted a match. The video posted shows turfgrass researchers at Michigan State University working to perfect a natural grass playing field for an indoor arena.

Back in what feels like a lifetime ago I did some freelance work managing a fan community for an up-and-coming rock band. [Yes, I was a fan. No, I won't reveal who.] I worked directly with some folks at Island Def Jam on the project, and the one artist that every single person at the label called "the nicest guy on Earth" was Lionel Richie. They said he made everyone feel like a million bucks, and he treated everyone kindly.
