Back in what feels like a lifetime ago I did some freelance work managing a fan community for an up-and-coming rock band. [Yes, I was a fan. No, I won't reveal who.] I worked directly with some folks at Island Def Jam on the project, and the one artist that every single person at the label called "the nicest guy on Earth" was Lionel Richie. They said he made everyone feel like a million bucks, and he treated everyone kindly.

Richie came up in conversation this morning and I had to pull this one out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqAvFx3NxUM

I have a soft spot for his work in both the Commodores and his solo work in the 80s. Let's start this morning with some dancing.

Note: This in no way diminishes my goth cred, right? 🦇 😆

I'll have to pull some Bauhaus out now.

But first I need some Commodores...

@jann I love it!

@BatsInLavender I started programming on the VIC20, then C64, then SX64, then C128... Those machines got me to where I am today!

ps: I know that is not what you were talking about...😉

@jann No, but every time I think of the Commodores I can't help but think of the 64 either! 😆

@BatsInLavender That C64? That earned me being grounded for almost 3 months when I logged onto Compuserve in the early 80's because I phoned in from northern Wyoming to Denver, CO to access the service and ended up with a $500 phone bill!

Dad later said "It was worth it! Your computer career was directly influenced by that - and it was cheaper than a high-rated-college!"

@jann I went to high school with some kids that got arrested by the FBI for phone phreaking in 1984. They came into our geometry class and pulled three of them out. Biggest thing that happened in my small town in the time I lived there.

I hadn't touched a computer until my senior year when they let us take "Programming in BASIC." A few years later (1995) I taught myself HTML on a dare and a career was born. 😆

@BatsInLavender I used to work in a Oyster bar in a mall after high school. Across from that was a store much like Brookstone. They had a computer (IBMPC Clone) set up on a stand. I'd go in and program a marketing blitz for the PC in basic. That really kicked off my career. A company that bought five of the computers hired me 2 wks later! 😂

thumbwrestler,

@jann @BatsInLavender I always wanted the SX-64 but at the time was too expensive.
