A few people have asked me recently about in-person bass lessons, so I thought I'd better write about why I only teach on Zoom these days, and why I think it's actually better than the in-person lesson experience.

I'm finding recorded #zoom screen sharing sessions to be ineffective, and I want to start cranking out short lessons and how-tos on a regular basis for adding to the #wiki
Essential features will be mouse click indicators, various visual aids, and anything that might make the recording and editing process easier.
How is #MicrosoftTeams such a poor experience. I do a "Meet now" and it puts me, as the organiser, into the pre-meeting-experience or something.. and no ability to "start" the meeting. People joining just get told the meeting has not started.
Then the other person did the same thing.. and got the same problem! We were entirely unsuccessful in starting a meeting,.
We resorted to #Zoom instead.

The hosted Jitsi service that many people in the Fediverse appear to prefer over, say, Zoom is operated by 8x8, a NASDAQ-traded public company.
I wonder how this makes Jitsi somehow more acceptable to the Fediverse than Zoom. Yes, I understand that Jitsi has an open-source implementation, but if you use a commercially-operated freemium service like https://meet.jit.si that appears to make very little difference re privacy etc.
#Windows11 is a dumpster fire. It decided this morning, all of a sudden, to reboot. In the middle of a #Teams call. Why do we trust #Microsoft with our data on this piece of shit Operating System?
A shame that Teams doesn't work as well as #Zoom does on #Linux.
tricky issue today: an update to either #zoom and/or #debian is causing zoom to use 1 (or 2 cores) on the machine, and eat memory at about 1Gb/s until the machine crashes. All before the Zoom GUI even launches.
Same behavior on the #flatpak or package from zoom themselves. (5.17.5.2543, and debian 12).
This worked last week. And now my family is scrambling to join their classes.
I again find myself wanting #Zoom to automatically add a "Local time: X" to each participant's square so that everyone on the meeting sees what time it is for each participant.
