What if you could own a stylus enabled Windows 11 Laptop, that was ALSO a Linux PC, and it was ALSO an Android tablet, and it cost less than an iPad Air (with keyboard), but had twice as much storage as the iPad AND you could upgrade its SSD when you needed more space?
In watching the tech media sites fawn over the latest iDevices...I don't get it. I rode the entire wave of smartphones, from hacking early #Windows Mobile phones, through the intro of #iPhone & #Android, up to the present. It was amazing to watch these devices evolve and mature but every single announcement over the last few years has been iterative and boring...and that's perfectly fine, it's a mature industry. But how can you possibly get that excited anymore?
We are concerned and committed to privacy that's why we are working on a powerful cookie and tracker blocker for the Midori browser and extension for our AstianGO search engine.
We want people to be able to browse the internet without fear of tracking, with privacy and always giving them control of their internet browsing.
I'm not a fan of #windows but I am jealous of its ability to run #android apps. I'm surprised #linux doesn't have a compatibility layer similar to #wsl (at least that I know of).
All I know for now is #anbox which seems to be abandoned (?) and Waydroid which I can't use yet becuase #wayland just doesn't work for me. Any ideas?
What app do you use to keep track of your productivity stuff? Been using Things3 (apple exclusive) for #productivity and it was nice but since I've been using multiple OS's recently it's not cutting it for me. I'm moving between #windows, #mac, #linux and #android more.
I find it truly baffling how, despite the inherent security and unwavering stability of #UNIX / #Linux systems, coupled with the abundance of #GNU / #OpenSource alternatives available for commonly used applications, there is still a prevalent tendency among individuals to persist in the use of the #Windows operating system...
The school I'm going to this autumn is sadly requiring me to use #Windows, and wow, it's just so… inelegant. Lack of freedom and privacy aside, it has stuttery animations, UI elements scrolling into nothing, inconsistent alignments all over the place, an unnecessarily big and pedantic collection of preferences that makes the settings system a hassle to navigate, and so on. Hard to believe this is coming from #Microsoft.
Would someone answer a OneDrive, Mac and iOS question? As I know little of Apple.
Basically does it all work like it does on Windows and Android?
My friend has a personal 365 subscription, with OneDrive and the apps all working nicely on his Windows laptop.
He wants to get it going on his Mac and his iPad, so that he can edit a spreadsheet on his Windows laptop, and then be able to open it on his iPad and it all be up to date (4G signal notwithstanding, obviously)
I'm Asahi 95, the 95 in my name refers to #Windows 95 :windows:, cause I love the retro aesthetics of old Windows :ms_heart_eyes:
I'm a person who is a tech enthusiast :ms_computer: and loves #Linux and #FOSS, although I still use some #proprietary#software from time to time :linux: :opensource:
I'm currently learning how to do #webdev stuff such as #HTML, #CSS, and maybe even #Javascript so i could maybe become a web dev in the future!
I joined the #Fediverse :fediverse: mainly because I wanted to get away from centralised services 🔒 and also want to interact with an open and diverse community that respects one another :blobcathug:
I'm a person who is #bisexual and is an avid supporter of the #lgbtqa+ :philly_pride:
I hope I can interact with everybody on the Fediverse and beyond! :blobcat:
Is there any FOSS #FileManager for Windows 10 that isn't super slow and unreliable, has double panels and tabs?
I've tried #Files, #Spacedrive and #DoubleCommander but each of them either can't do basic operations without crashing or requiring me to wait a few seconds.
I thought switching from HDD to M.2 SSD will help - I did not.
#WindowsExplorer sucks - no dual view, no tabs... But all other options fig. make me want to punch the screen.
I just received my new laptop and if you were wondering how it is going with #Windows, I had to look up how to install Windows 11 without signing up with a Microsoft account (I have one, I just don’t want to use it) and download a third-party executable from GitHub to be able to move the taskbar to the right of my screen where it’s been for the past dozen of years or so. The Windows 11 taskbar doesn’t support this feature anymore, but the third-party tool is able to switch the taskbar to the Windows 10 version because of course it was still in there somewhere.
I also looked into moving my personal files from my old laptop to the new one and officially Microsoft only recommends using OneDrive (via a cloud upload and then download) or an external device (via a transfer to the device and then back from it).
No info on direct transfer on the same Wi-Fi network and I’m starting to understand why, sharing a folder from the old computer with open permissions makes it appear on the new computer’s network view but actual access is denied for vague permissions issues with no suggested resolution path.
I will not take questions at this point but I would appreciate some #help .
How does my laptop all of a sudden not recognize all the mics. Or well, it sees all the mics that I have... it just doesn't allow any of them to pass on sound on Whereby, Discord, OBS or any other software. WHY?! #windows#troubleshooting
heise+ | Semesterbeginn: Notebook mit Windows oder macOS
Das Semester beginnt und viele Studienanfänger kaufen sich ein Notebook. Doch welches Betriebssystem ist besser: Windows oder macOS? Wir vergleichen sie.
This month it is 30 years since I started working on browsers. April 1994 is when Geir and I started working on the Opera browser. We founded the company a year later.
Initially I made the UI, while Geir did a lot of the core.
Since that time I have dedicated myself to making the Web live up to its potential. First at Opera and now at Vivaldi.
If you ever used Opera and you have not tried Vivaldi, I invite you to give us a try!
If you never used Opera or Vivaldi, you are invited as well!
We at @Vivaldi continue to be the only browser company all in on Mastodon and the Fediverse.
We have made our own instance, Vivaldi Social. Any user that has a Vivaldi account for sync or other services, can easily enable a presence on Vivaldi Social.
We have integrated Mastodon as a Web panel into Vivaldi.
We include links to Vivaldi Social into Vivaldi.
We also work on integrating our blogs and forums into the Fediverse.
We hope others will follow. Mozilla has talked a lot and we hope they will join us fully soon.
