After a period of uncertainty during which Danish wind energy developer Orsted briefly pulled out of the project, the United States' largest offshore wind project is officially back on track.
Sunrise Wind will have a total capacity of 924 megawatts and will create about 800 jobs during construction and 300 during operations.
The wind farm is expected to provide clean, renewable power to 320,000 homes in New York. It is currently scheduled to come online in 2027.
Lots of power outages planned and eminent for my part of #Boulder county due to this #wind event. Our section of town has not received notification of outage from the provider yet, but most of the town has.
Batteries are charged on everything, backups and in place, and my hybrid truck with its 7.2 kW onboard generator is ready to power critical things (refrigeration, heat, cooking) if needed.
Hmm, unsure what kind of weather event just went through here (microburst?) but an incredible burst of wind, you could hear it pulling air through some of the windows, every tree straining, and then back to normal. #wind#CAwx
NWS Boulder: "In Colorado, we are used to windy days and wind storms. This weekend's wind storm will not be like our typical wind storm. We are expecting winds to reach 100 mph in the foothills! Winds this strong may lead to property damage and power outages. COwx " #COwx#wind
To become climate neutral until 2040 the state of Bavaria needs to build 104 wind turbines every year. With the first quarter of 2024 coming to an end we should be at 26 turbines. To keep track of the actual progress, Greenpeace has installed a counter in the Munich city center. Below is a picture I took today of the counter
"Will a grid based around #wind and #solar kill manufacturing and industry? It’s what the naysayers – the Coalition and conservative agitators – want you to believe, but the experience in #SouthAustralia, which leads the world in the uptake of wind and solar, proves the opposite."
A peaceful morning on the way to work. I usually don't like getting started in the mornings on Mondays. This was a good reminder to take a deep breath and slow down.
