It is a mistake to think of #nature as warm and cuddly. Many, perhaps most, #violent encounters between #humans and #wildlife are the result of the former treating the latter as #Disney characters.
One reason “#birds are #dinosaurs” made immediate sense to me was a vivid childhood memory: when I was about ten, I thought some #goslings were cute and wanted to pet them. #Mother#Goose had other ideas. Yeah, don’t do that.
It is equally a mistake to assume nature is All #Killing, All The Time. Fighting takes a lot of energy, and wild animals—including our own distant ancestors—are in constant peril of #starvation. Even a minor #injury can lead to #infection and #death.
Violence is a tool of survival, to be sure, whether in #predation, self-defense, or squabbles over #territory and #mating. Unnecessary violence is a quick road to #extinction. Most animals would rather do something else, when they can.
So before you fall back on “red in tooth and claw” as a default, look for other explanations. They’re usually more interesting anyway.
Republicans hate Girls and Women - they have already bent the laws to be able to murder us and disappear us. They are now making it legal to humiliate and torture us. There is no love - and there is nothing redeemable - in a man who would be ok with this assault, subjugation, and physical abuse of Girls and Women. Girls and Women aren't vessels to club and claim caveman style. We aren't vessels to impregnate and imprison. We are autonomous beings with fundamental human rights to self determine. Scrolling through these local news reports may lead you to conclude that the country is in the grip of a crime wave. This is certainly the conclusion found across conservative media, including #Fox News primetime fixture Sean #Hannity, who on Oct. 6 declared that a Democrat-enabled #violent#crime wave is “wreaking havoc across #America.”
How much more #incitement of #violence will it take for law enforcement to act? These #MAGAts regularly include #threats, incitements, and direct calls to #violent action in their communications. It is intentional, and part of strategy of #stochastic#terrorism they are purposely employing. They know some small percentage of their base will act on this violent encouragement, and that results in fear in their adversaries. And that's exactly the point.
The #news only reports on #protests when they become #violent. If this trend continues, protestors will likely be tempted to increase #violence, since it seems to be the only way mainstream #media will pay attention to them. As long as news outlets ignore/discount #peaceful activism, I don't doubt people will see this as their only option to get eyes on their cause. The news is explicitly twisting the truth. Peaceful protests should be turned directly on them.
