The hardest keybind to relearn when going from #vim to #helixeditor for me right now is deleting. "x" is like a reflex, but I need to learn to use "d" now.
I'll get there.
1️⃣ Introduce a few default linters
2️⃣ Add a few LazyVim plugin linters and formatters
3️⃣ Navigate diagnostics across a project
4️⃣ Show how to fix problems
5️⃣ Add your own custom linters
I used :emacs: and c3po.el to ask about what makes nvim better than vim 🙂
Even though Emacs rocks my world, I still use vim daily and am curious how its future looks.
One feature that's hard for nvim to do after, is that vim is ubiquitous: Not only is it available on macOS, Windows and Linux, but any Unix under the Sun (pun intended), as well as Amiga, OS/2, QNX and many others.
I started using vi on AIX in 1999/2000
I started using #Vim some time around 2002, but I've never really taken advantage of plugins or advanced features. I've just been really happy with syntax highlighting and powerful search and replace.
I just started using #Neovim and, following some guides, I've got it pretty pimped out.
I don't know how to use half the plugins I've installed. We'll see how this goes.
does anyone have any suggestions for cool vim plugins to install that I might not already have?
I already have a lot of common plugins, like syntax highlighting and LSP, etc...
:vim: #vim
Does anyone here actually use the sc-im spreadsheet? If so, why?
For the uninitiated, sc-im is a #vim-like spreadsheet program for the #commandline on #Linux and #bsd. There may be a windows binary but I wouldn't know.
I wanted to be able to scroll a #Linux man page with my mouse wheel. While looking for a setting to change I learned that #Vim can be used as a pager allowing mouse support and much more.
Watched a stream on modal editing options in #emacs by @daviwil and my thoughts are that meow is interesting HCI project and quite good in terms of UX: It visually shows the object you will operate on first and let you make some modification second.
I had around a decade of #vim experience, I could do some operations very efficiently, but it never tasted right. I think verb+object approach is just suboptimal, also it can't be accompanied by a nice UI feedback.
I'm Rob, a longtime #linux user (running #archlinux ATM, btw.), maker and sometimes blogger. I'm very much into #selfhosting and run most stuff on my local servers. I'm also a big #vim and @kde fan.
For my day job I'm a full time remote Embedded Software Engineer from my home
in Taranaki, NZ (I'm originally from the UK). Outside of tech stuff I enjoy vegetable #gardening and am learning #woodworking.
I'm happily married with two lovely, but also annoying children!
When I was younger, I read some #RFCs from front to back. I sat for hours in front of the computer, reading #Vim’s excellent manual and trying out things.
Today, I just skim both of them until I find the exact thing that I need to know in that moment, simply because I don’t have enough time.
This sucks, and I need to get back to how it once was.
1️⃣ Treesitter syntax highlighting for help files
2️⃣ Native Treesitter Inspect Window
3️⃣ Status Column for fold, sign, & number
4️⃣ EditorConfig support
5️⃣ NVIM_APPNAME support for config directories
6️⃣ Run Lua scripts from the shell
7️⃣ showcmdloc informational status
8️⃣ splitkeep to control horizontal split scroll
9️⃣ Lots more!
"To help some of the newcomers make connections: name 5-7 things that interest you but aren't in your profile, as tags so they are searchable. Then boost this post or repeat its instructions so others know to do the same. Add #introductions to the post."
A response to @kev sharing my workflow, using #jekyll, #vim, #rofi and other tools to achieve the same thing. Plus some extra stuff people using any #ssg would find useful! Day 41 of #100DaysToOffload
Using #vim is easy once you learn a few basic keybindings.
h and l - move left and right
j and k - move down and up
η and λ - move backwards and forwards through time
ξ and κ - translation through additional temporal dimension (if applicable)
ᚻ, ᛄ, ᚳ and ᛚ - moving left, down, up, and right through celestial spheres
𐤄 and 𐤋 - switch deity to pantheon member to left or right
𐤉 - supplicate to chosen deity
𐤊 - challenge chosen deity (dangerous)
:q - exit
So, my main website is currently based on #ikiwiki. I like it because it's #plainText (no #database), I can work on it on my laptop using my favorite tools (#vim, #git), preview it locally, and then “deploy” it to a static set of HTML on the hosting machine. But there are a couple of things I do not like about my current setup. Chiefly:
Hey, I'm blinry! I create digital tools and games, and digital art. I mostly use Mastodon to share my joy about things I learn or create. Welcome, everyone! :)
I love my communities: the Chaos community, Jugend Hackt, the Recurse Center.
danke für alles ❤️ nicht zuletzt deine gelebte Toleranz gegen meine Emacs-Affinität. #Schnitzelhaus (und vieles andere) will never be the same without you.
