Example #167, and the very first example showing basic usage of the new https://thi.ng/geom-webgl interop package (still unreleased): Parsing a SVG path, sampling it with uniform vertex density (configurable), converting it into a complex polygon (w/ holes) and then into WebGL buffers (w/ vertex color option enabled), randomizing colors via probabilistic color theme, and — finally — drawing it all...
Font rendering incorrectly in an interactive PDF, but only in Chrome.
Previous PDFs exported from the same file render correctly. Only obvious difference is that the faulty file is PDF version 1.7. and the other 1.5.
You can’t choose the PDF version in Interactive PDF export. However, this was fixed simply by re-saving the PDF in Acrobat (no need to change version). So something tiny is broken in InDesign’s 1.7 pipeline and not in Acrobat’s. #InDesign#typography
Font inspiration✳️
Any font designers looking for inspiration? Found these beautiful letters that would be awesome to have extended to a full alphabet. Couldn't find anything like it in digital form.
From the permament exhibition in The Black Diamond in Copenhagen
I've been hunting for this specific typeface/font for ages, but can never find it. It was used for cinema light box/marquees in the UK in the 1960s-1980s. It's close to some of the usual suspects (Gill Sans, Human521, Futura, DIN, Century, etc ), but no cigar. Any ideas?
We have released a new library: TypoRules for #PHP 🎉
It is not actually new, as we have been working with it for years to enable outstanding #typography in our #web and #print applications. What is new is that all functionalities are now available in a bundled form and as #opensource.
We really need to gather various #typography related #CSS properties that are scattered across different browsers without full support (or with just partial support) and make it into an #interop2025 focus area.
Like ascent-override (please, Safari!)
Or font-size-adjust (come on, Chrome!)
Or… initial-letter (hey, Firefox!), though, there are also so many ::first-letter issues!
Or text-box-trim & text-box-edge (ok, these are only there in Safari TP)
For A Project™, I need to learn about the historical origins of #bitmap#fonts. Highly doubt these were first created on computers; where in the world have rectangular #tiles or #bricks carried a textual message? (The tiled signs in the #NYC subway are #mosaics, not based on a grid.) Where did bitmap fonts really start?
Ferdinand Ulrich (@ferdinandulrich or @ferdinandulrich)'s journey to finding the history of digital type pre-postscript started when we spent time with 92 year old Jack Stauffacher at his Greenwood Press in San Francisco.
Nope, I don't think I can do Oliver Schöndorfer's talk justice.
He artfully weaved between pro and con accessibility stances (and clearly came out on the correct side, of course) - while acknowledging the troubles people have trying to understand and implement accessible design.
There was so much more to this talk, I recommend you go watch the video once it's publicised!
Is there a punctuation if you want to say something, but also signal that the other person could correct it (so something between "." and "?"). The interrobang ‽ has a different meaning.
One of my favorite road signs in all of Missouri, seen heading west on Interstate 70 in St. Charles County.
I very seldom drive there, but when I do, I love to startle the rest of my family by saying "Look everyone, we're coming up to Bryan ..." then screaming "ROAD!" at the top of my lungs.
I'm not sure why they decided to make "ROAD" uppercase, but I am forever grateful.
This morning there was an interesting presentation at #lgm about using new typographic ligatures to make written language more gender-neutral. Great ideas with graphically interesting solutions. Thanks to the "Bye Bye Binary"-collective. https://typotheque.genderfluid.space/
I missed this book when it came out, so excited to finally pick up a copy. Brick Index from Patrick Fry. Yep, that’s right it’s a book of pictures of British bricks, 154 of them, and it’s wonderful
