Really sick of these big tech companies.
Absolute parasites.

I still find it utterly absurd that is a mandatory part of all news broadcasts. For someone with zero interest in sport, it has sounded like this to me for 50+ years: "Those were the main news headlines... Now, rodent news: Manchester Zoo has loaned Señor Fluffi, a Spanish gerbil, from Zoo Aquarium de Madrid for £20 million. They have also expressed interest in acquiring a squirrel..."

Reading about how the toxic American eugenics movement of the 1920s inspired Hitler et al, to put their recommendations into action. And I also realise that some twittering billionaires are again repeating (long debunked) statements made by the blatantly racist, ableist eugenics movement.

A while back, I re-created a graphic that featured in Stanley Kubrick's film 2001: A Space Odyssey. It was a very minor graphic in the film's cornucopia of special effects but I've always liked it. My original version of the BBC 12 logo contained a couple of errors (including the typeface), so I thought it was time to update it...

While I'm recreating fictional (or, in this case, previously fictional) BBC channels, I thought I might as well quickly mock up a vector graphic of 'BBC 3', which appeared (over 30 years before the launch of the real BBC 3) in the 1971 #DoctorWho episode 'The Daemons'.

I've had to take a break from reading a dense volume about the of the Roman Empire. More accurate chapter titles might be: Chap. 1: Men Being Dicks. Chap 2: More From Those Men Being Dicks. Chap 3: The Dick Men Fight Other Dick Men. Chap 4: Women's Roles in... Nope. More Men Being Dicks.

I've been thinking about the King Charles portrait for a few days, but I still can't decide whether the painting style reminds me more of old Puffin, Pan Horror, or Mills & Boon cover illustrations.

If you've ever wondered what it's like being autistic with ADHD, it's a bit like this for me. (I always assumed everybody thought like this).

Wayne Shorter's precocious Blue Note debut, ably accompanied by Lee Morgan and Coltrane group alumni McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones and Reggie Workman. No wonder Miles Davis snapped up Shorter for his legendary 2nd Great Quintet, which not only adopted his style, but also seemed to "communicate by mental telepathy" after his arrival.

That Beatles episode: A flamboyant supervillain in boots steals the power of music from the world leaving it devastated, and silences the band that could save it. Fortunately,
eventually manage to play the right music that can defeat the villain and... hold on

Spring, ffs. There are songs, even symphonies, glorifying birdsong written by everyone from Paul McCartney & Fleetwood Mac to Frederick Delius, Vaughan Williams, & Messiaen. But, I swear to god, if you're neurodivergent/misophonic, some bird 'song' is the aural equivalent of being waterboarded.

Jack Dorsey is furious that has attracted "very very common" people. He also doesn't like the idea of moderation tools facilitating the banning of racists.

All these tech billionaires are like a version of the movie Big, in which a pre-adolescent boy wakes up in the body of an aging Howard Hughes. Or Colonel Kurtz. Or a sardine.

I'm revisiting early-mid 1980s albums by prog rock (& related) artists, when they decided to try new, more stripped down, approaches, many of which provoked vilification & even decades-long grudges among older fans who accused their favourite bands of selling out (see also: Queen's Hot Space album).

But, arguably, they were still being musically progressive by incorporating other styles. Genesis (R&B/Motown/new wave), Yes (US stadium AOR), King Crimson (new wave/minimalism/US post punk), Peter Gabriel (world music).
Only Pink Floyd didn't really embrace the 80s that much. The Final Cut is more like a step back to the antiwar/political songs of the late 60s and the post-Waters follow up sounds like an attempt to return to (imitate?) mid-late '70s Floyd but with '80s production values.

Richard_Littler,
@Richard_Littler@mastodon.social avatar

For me, the strongest early-to mid 80s albums of this type are Discipline by King Crimson and Hounds of Love by Kate Bush. Not only were they not selling out, they defined styles that inspired future artists and genres.
And I don't care what anyone says: I like Abacab!

One of the most depressing ads I've seen, and yet it perfectly captures the presumptuousness and obliviousness of 21st C 'tech bro' culture, which seems hellbent on running roughshod over, well, any kind of creativity that it can't exploit financially. https://twitter.com/tim_cook/status/1787864325258162239

It has taken me two years to change my bio from "Neurodivergent, apparently" to just "Neurodivergent". Despite being open about my #ASD and #ADHD, the 'apparently' must have been a subconscious way of distancing myself from the diagnosis somehow.

For some, Miles Davis' early 1970s albums are a tough listen because they're furious, chaotic, frenzied, but they perfectly reflect the conflicts of a very different time: war, corruption, attacks on the rights of women & minorities, riots, disgraced presidents, violent campus protests... As I say, a very different time... oh
