Well, happy fucking joy. One of the Creative Commons music sites where I get music for my videos has rearranged its structure, and now YouTube has decided it’s “deceptive” and has removed one of my videos. No appeal available.
This is always the danger of having one massive centralized destination for video on the web. They are completely unapproachable to very reasonable situations that creators run into. As a creator, it's in your best interest to try and move away from relying on that one single centralized destination, as much as possible.
Very happy to have #tilvids be a part of that solution. 💙

I am looking to have my videos on PeerTube as well, so they’re available somewhere that’s not evil. I think @tilvids would be a good match, but before I jump in, are there any other instances that would suit my kind of “real steampunk”, transport history, and niche transportation kind of thing?
I think your content looks like a good match for our instance. If you hop on over to our Matrix channel, the mods can set you up with permission. Just paste this Mastodon thread as a reference.
As a #YouTube alternative, @tilvids (tilvids.com) works pretty great! Some of my favourite creators from YouTube are also there like @thelinuxEXP, @vkc, and @gamingonlinux. I don't create video content but if I were to do so, I'd definitely publish it on #TILvids in addition to or in place of YouTube.
Even just by spreading awareness about #tilvids you're helping! Hopefully others will see and join us, whether that is as a creator, a patron, or just a fan of the community. Cheers and thanks for letting others know!
Yes sorry about that. #tilvids was not really architectured to deal with lots of really long footage, like what you typically find in gaming content. I think there's a good opportunity out there for that kind of instance, but it's definitely going to be a logistical challenge for the person or group that chooses to tackle it.

As for #tilvids we don't have ads, don't know what extensions you have installed, and never will because that's none of anyone's business. Just come over and enjoy some great #edutainment content! And if you need a mobile experience, #newpipe does a pretty good job! 💙

As said before, always happy to have @TechConnectify join us! All creators join on their own terms, and can share as much or little of their catalog as they choose.
There's no guarantee #youtube won't become more hostile to creators and viewers. The goal for creators should be to eventually move to a platform they control. My hope with #tilvids is that we can provide creators with that first step!

It's pretty disheartening to watch some of the mod teams bowing to Reddit's threats of removing them. The one and only response of each mod team should be to spin up and begin redirecting all of their community to alternatives on #Lemmy#Kbin etc. While they are at it, take the time to create a website presence (to post news that bubbles up from the community) and #Mastodon social accounts as well.
And FWIW I set the #tilvids sub-reddit to private and have no intention of changing it back unless Reddit comes up with better policies for 3rd-parties using their APIs.
It was three years ago today that I started the site. In the early days, it was all I could do to get a single person per week to visit the site. Today, we have almost 4,000 registered users and over 2,300 videos shared! 🙌

Hoping to move to a more federated existence online - on my list of things to try is #owncast for my twitch replacement and vids at #tilvids or some #peertube instance.
