Last week I stated here that I was going to do my 1st swimming session on the Grand Final public holiday last Friday. I said that publicly to hold myself accountable to me.
But on Friday I couldn't get myself organised to go swimming and get other chores done. My penance was to swim in cooler weather this morning. But at least I did it - my first swim of this season. It was also the 1st time I have swum at the Fitzroy swimming pool. There were quite a few people but everyone was relaxed and the lane I had was not too crowded.
I was rather creaky in the shoulders so had to do a longer warm up . My thigh muscles were in rather sad condition so I dropped a couple of laps from my kick set. Given this, I thought I would break up my regular 1 km freestyle into 5 sets of 200m but to my surprise I felt better so thought I would go to 400m. Then I felt in the zone at 400m so went on to complete the 1km.
I was understandably slow and my dodgy right shoulder was telling me that it existed but I did 2km in total like I have done for years albeit ~ 10 minutes slower. But it is better to complete it slower than do it too quickly at first and injure myself.
So let's see if I can make a habit of this and try to do it twice a week. How I will feel about this on Wednesday morning in the cold and rain?
Oh how much I have exercised #today. My friend and I went to the #gym (they had really good exercise machines there) and after that to the #swimming hall for water #aerobics. And before that we went for a walk in Reposuo #swamp. #suomimastodon#finland
Managed to squeeze in an easy run with some views of the city during the lunch break of the #swimming competition I am officiating today as the chief judge.
It may be a grey day, but we were treated to a flight of geese and stags roaring on the hills during this morning’s swim. #Scotland#swimming#ColdWaterSwimming
#Ironman70.3 #NewYork done: non-stop #rain and 25 mph #winds with tailwind for half of the course and half with headwind (including the final 4 miles of the run). Brutal and memorable 😱🌦️
A #shoutout to my #supporters who came to the #race under these awful conditions... I owe you a dry sauna session at least 😜😜
Public holiday for the Grand Final Parade this Friday and at this stage it looks like it will be a glorious 26 degrees in #Melbourne. I plan to start my personal #swimming season that day.
I am declaring that publicly so that I am putting myself under pressure to actually do it. #commitment
Okay I feel I've told this story before, but new account and all, so I'll try to catch you up to date.
I started my first year at #University. And per #school policy first years have to live in the #dorms. I'm in one of the #GirlsOnly dorms. Before classes started my proposed #roommate made some very unkind comments about me being a #lesbian, in front of myself, the #RA and a couple of #faculty members. And she was unceremoniously told she was not welcome at the university. The student they found to replace her is male, so I ended up without a roomie, which since I suffer from #chronic#migraines is a nice thing.
Last week was #Frosh week, where all the first years have to do stuff for #charity. So the girls in my dorm did a car wash. Since it was super hot last week, most of us work ,#bikini tops and short #shorts. I made some good friends among them, Suse and Rose who share the room next to mine and Lisa for the 2nd floor. I like all the girls, but we four became really close already.
Suse and I even slept together after a mixer in the dorm's common room, we woke up #naked together on the couch. Since then she's woken me up or vice versa several times by licking each other's #pussies.
This week we had our first classes. And after buying/downloading our text books the four of us went shopping . We took turns in pairs having #cunnilingus in the changing rooms.
I also tried out and got a spot on the #swimming ,#team and the #gymnastics team. And Suse and I both posed nude together for a art class. And are going to continue to do so.
Hope that brings you up to date with my year so far. 💋
***** Generative AI's fundamental problem -- the executives pushing it *****
I want to be very clear about this.
The fundamental problem is not the Generative AI systems themselves and their often utterly wrong (or even worse) partly wrong (but oh so nicely written and so convincing!) "answers".
The problem is that executives at Google and other Generative AI Tech firms are putting these tools out there in ways that encourage their use by the nontechnical public as "answer machines", when we (and presumably the execs) know that those answers can be dangerously wrong. Disclaimers saying "This is an experiment, there may be wrong answers, be sure to check for yourself blah blah blah" are utterly worthless except perhaps to satisfy their lawyers.
This situation is deeply unethical, even if we put aside their stealing text for answers word for word from sites -- usually with no credit given or links back.
It's pretty much the most alarming thing I've seen on the Internet so far in my entire career, in terms of the potential damage that could be done to websites and the public at large over time. -L
I think it fits the definition of an "attractive nuisance". We make home swimming pool owners put secure fences around their pools or yards to keep children and others, naturally attracted to the pool, from using it unsupervised and dying.
The generative AI systems being rolled out as any part of a knowledge-search, -synthesis, or -summarizing tool is dangerous. It's beyond #negligent; it's being done knowingly, and damn the #consequences.
Good morning, if you are thinking of #wildswimming this weekend you might need to be a bit cautious about your #swimming
Despite being an island, the UK has fewer formally recognised bathing sites per capita than nearly any other #European country...
But, we also have the fifth highest number of sites rates as 'poor'.
As Tim Fallon (LibDems/Cumbria) puts it: 'the UK is officially the sick swimmer of Europe, with water companies allowed to get away with foul polluting habits'!
I injured it sometime this spring, and it just hasn't recovered. So I visited a physiotherapist last week, and he informed me that I had a bog standard, easy to fix, rotator cuff injury.
So now I am the proud owner of some really large rubber bands and a very specific exercise routine.
I am avoiding other upper body work while this heals... but it turns out London is great for cycling.
Good morning @evelynefoerster
We were looking at your Mountain Trails, so I found mine to show you.. We took a trip to Cape Breton Island, in my last OLD RV Camper, with two cats (then) and stayed at the Provincial Park https://parks.novascotia.ca/park/whycocomagh in #Whycocomagh area.
The towns, Cabot Trail and Beaches are all around, it was central for us explorers.
A little lead-in.. Avoid 100 series highways in #NovaScotia . They are for speed, not scenery or culture. Here's the only highway we had to cross
There's no real way to communicate what I saw, what you are missing, and why you aren't planning your trip already? #WAYCTV ◄ The scenic side of #NovaScotia . You should come? @evelynefoerster
The view at the top, over the Bras D'Or lakes.. We were just in Cape Breton two weeks ago, but I'd go right back for a few more days here. #Whycocomagh#CapeBreton#Mountains#Trails#Hiking#Swimming
This isn't a helicopter ride, save your money and your strength, we're legging this adventure
I posted this screenshot from Terminator 2 a few years ago, and it seems even more true today: you should be preparing kids for an uncertain future (not the blowing things up and weapons, but disaster preparedness and survival skills). "Here's how to perfect your golf game" isn't gonna do it. #DisasterPreparedness#Terminator#SkynetDay
Going down to survey the Tweed where I’ll be swimming at the weekend we ran from the Union Chain Bridge https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Chain_Bridge down to the RNLI station at Berwick and back. Should be an interesting day.
On the way back we called past the Rocking Horse Cafe who were holding their annual gathering of the clans. It was extremely noisy. 90 odd collies, not all well behaved 🫣
We took the dogs to the river for a walk today. It's really a stream, not rivers how we know them to be, but hey it's a close to a river you get around here. Anyway for the summer months they partially dam part of it to make a pool. Two years ago we taught our dogs to swim here and each year we visit a couple of times. Arko was straight in no encouragement needed ❤️ #dogs#swimming#Spain#andalucia#dogsofmastodon#husky#rescuedog
