Taper 1. T-5d. Rennsteiglauf in Germany. 74km with 1874m of EG and 1386m of EL. A “classic” in Germany. 51st edition. With up to 2500 participants (and 15000 in total over all events). Taking place in the “Thüringer Wald” Mittelgebirge (most known is Oberhof for its Biathlon events during the winter). Will be cool. Though it is kind of my A-goal race I am planning to do the race to be able to enjoy it as much as possible while also racing. It is a huge festival in the area. And I don’t want to miss out the party feeling at the aid stations. Zoom in at the screenshot. Amazing number and supply. Looking forward to the beer towards the end. https://www.rennsteiglauf.de/wettkampf/strecken/supermarathon/ #trailrunning #running

T-4d. Rennsteiglauf (74km/1884m of EG) trivia. Aid stations serve porridge. It is actually quite famous for this. With regards to the aid stations, I guess I will run with only one flask. And only use it at the beginning to avoid the crowds at the first station after 6.9km and then don't refill it. There are 14 aid stations. The longest distance between them being 6.7km, the shortest 2.6. They are served by local sports clubs from the villages nearby. A buffet of aid stations. https://www.thueringen-entdecken.de/en/w/rennsteiglauf-ready-steady-dumpling- #trailrunning #running

@moelholm @Johan_Barelds I ran at Mozart last year. They also had good beer towards the end. Recommended. Both the run and the beer. It was nice actually. A good change of taste after 75K…

One of the largest HM in the world happened today in Göteborg. My new employer sponsors runners 👊 (signup fee, tent in the starting area with drinks, bbq, etc). Though I have my main ultra race next week I participated and took it as a training run (easy tempo pace without pushing it, definitely not race pace ). My start was at 1345 with over 30C in the sun (26C regular). 🥵😎. It was a fun event. More than 200000 spectators along the course. (Haven’t run it since 2004 (1:19 - 20 years later 20 minutes slower 🤣)). Legs felt quite fresh after it. Ran back home 🙈 (4km). Heat was noticeable on the HR. But it didn’t had an effect on my hydration needs. Took only small sips every 5K at the aid stations. 🤷‍♂️. Good day. #trailrunning #running https://www.goteborgsvarvet.se/

@sebastianhahn @officehippy thank you both 🙏. heat usually doesn’t affect me a lot. of course, I would like to avoid it for these kind of things (10C-16C would have been much nicer). What helped me as well was to prepare me throughout the week for this. I did all my training this week when it was warm in the early afternoon in plain sun and avoided running in shadows. I also had my lunch, coffee and reading in plain sun sitting there for an hour. Both were a key to be able to adapt to the heat quite good.

@BenjaminHan always add the “Strava tax” of 0.1… the problem when your watch and Strava use different calculation models on your GPS data.

recollir,
@recollir@mountains.social avatar

@WTL
Same issue with Apple Watch as with Garmin watches. Different algorithms to calculate the distance based on the GPS tracks.

@BenjaminHan

recollir,
@recollir@mountains.social avatar

@BenjaminHan @WTL I haven’t seen this kind of discrepancy yet. I guess you would want to download the GPX file from Strava and take a look at it… (there are some apps to extract GPX info from the fitness app as well (though you might have “other means” 😜). With the different GPX files you could compare their data (it is just XML anyway) or upload them to different other sites to see what they make out of them. Gaia, GPX studio, …

Wednesday:
93 seconds of plank
11 minutes of yoga for runners
11 and 20 minutes of HIIT
20 minutes of strength training
6.2 km of #running (11°C, light rain, with 17km/hr wind)

Accidentally picked a 10 minute HITT when I meant a 30 minute… so I did two, both of which were hard. 🤣

My running heart rate is up (~146 this run vs ~125-130). I think it’s the workouts beforehand and not completely recovering before the run.

Light rain was nice. I don't mind getting wet. It's like free cooling.

Three scenes all

@WTL 62 min of workouts and 6.2km of running. Nice similarities in the numbers. I like that. 😅

Is there a instance dedicated to amateur ? Races, training, etc.

I need to get some thoughts and opinions on training and racing out of my head. I could post them here, but this instance is primarily dedicated to Free Software. Most of my followers are probably either expecting posts related to that or cybersecurity, math, science, cryptography, etc. IE, not running.

Posting to a fitness-dedicated instance probably makes the most sense. Or setting up a blog.

@atoponce you will reach a large community of runners on mastodon by using the #running hashtag as you did. Just post and ask.

Next week is Göteborgs Varvet, a HM since 1980 and one of the largest running events (with 45000 to 60000 participants). A few years back they jumped on the trail running hype and offer now a trail race as well, 11.5km with 350m of EG, on the Sunday before the HM. The race goes through my regular training area. I run on the trails several times per week, which makes it kind of strange to enter a race there AND also pay $40 for the eleven kilometers. You could call me cheap. 😜

During my late morning run today I “inspected” the course… The race will first start several hours later in the afternoon, so no, not really a bandit. #trailrunning #running

@WTL @sebastianhahn I don’t have the phone with me very often.

Apple pay on the watch was another good feature to have. Being able to buy a Coke sometimes during summer on a long run. That’s what I need the phone now for most often. My bank doesn’t support Garmin Pay… 🤷‍♂️

“Ran”(more of a short jog) to the swim competition I was officiating at as the “judge of strokes” (basically following the swimmers from the side of the pool and watch if they swim according to the rules). The “walking along the pool” can be quite fast at times. 50m freestyle between 20 and 30s. Or 100m around 45 to 60s. You can calculate the pace. In the 3 hours of judging I managed to accumulate 13km. Then I ran home taking a “detour” to some trails and hills. That was nice sunset, no wind, calm. So beautiful and relaxing. And another 400m of vert in the books. ⛰️🐐 #trailrunning #running

Friday: 121 seconds of plank, 11 minutes of yoga for runners, 31 minutes of Strength training, followed by 6.6 km of (0°C), picked up groceries, and walked home.

I tried dialingmy running back this week, and I think I have to try and take next week off completely and possibly book an appointment with my doctor to see what she thinks is going on.

✅🏃🏽500m EG via Hill Repeats

Repeated the workout from a week ago; gathering ~500m EG.

Last time I was hitting Z3 etc and was pretty bombed afterwards.

Today I partially tried a suggestion from @recollir : to stay in Z2. It was successful and I also feel less impacted now - so a run (easy) should be ok tomorrow. I probably won’t do that though😅 (planned RESTish day). And - for sure - not a similar workout. Not yet at least 🙃.

@moelholm 🙌🙌🙌 Well done. “Walking with purpose” takes some training (body and mind). If you don’t concentrate and loose focus you suddenly just walk at a slow pace. Keeping the “speed hiking” tension in the body and mind for 1, 2 or 3 hours is difficult. Try it in the gym on the treadmill: “Hike” on 10% for 2h.

Repeat today next week and then add half of EG the following day. Test it. You could also do 500m on Tuesday and 500m on Thursday. You should be ready for that. No doubt. 💯

Seems just about everyone hates the new layout

recollir,
@recollir@mountains.social avatar

@ascherbaum @dominicvfx I actually don’t mind the update. Yes, it changes things. And I guess that is what most people don’t like. That things are different. But being able to customize the Home Screen is nice. I have thrown out most of the things and just concentrate on the numbers that can trust from the sensors (time, distance/altitude and HR). All the other numbers regarding training readiness, load, etc are gone now (turned off). Don’t need those.

One thing they still need to fix though: the order changes in the list of gear. Each time I bring that view up to add my shoes to the session the order on that list has changed.

🚀 My new iOS app, TrailPro, is now available! 🏃

https://trailpro.app

TrailPro is a fitness app for trail runners, and is totally free. I'd love for you to check it out and tell me what you think 😊

This started as my next "big thing", but has now morphed into a hobby project following my new role at Apple. So whilst I'm unlikely to be able to work on it once I start, I'm always happy to receive feedback. It will however remain entirely free for the foreseeable.
