Whatever is going on right now in #Russia, I do note this: #Twitter is now useless at tracking this. Junk accounts everywhere, no verified accounts, swarms of sketchy bluechecks.
The ONE thing that place was good at was breaking global news. But not now.
NEW: #Russia has jumped into the #Texas border controversy and is now cheering on civil war in the US and promoting the right-wing border convoy. Even more interestingly, I found evidence that disinformation accounts associated with the notorious Internet Research Agency (Russia’s “troll factory”) may be being “reactivated” to promote a secessionist movement in Texas.
#Russia has launched "Ruviki," a state-backed encyclopedia mirroring the original Russian Wikipedia. This new platform includes all previous Russian-language Wikipedia content but has been edited to omit information potentially unfavorable to the Russian government.
Interestingly, the Ruviki article about George Orwell’s 1984 entirely omits the Ministry of Truth.
So far I am totally impressed with #Mastodon ‘s ability to relay real time news on #Russia events. I checked the bird site as a comparison, and it’s miles behind because they don’t display posts chronologically and boost subscriber posts, which tend to be old. Yay #Mastodon !
