The isolated corporate "social" sites we used have competitors here in the but here they all interlock and share communities. A picture to help out our who may not be yet aware of the wider Fediverse of linked platforms and software.

One of the cool things about the & the rise of & is it is a big positive to both the and the existing users on the Fedi:

On the Threadiverse side: Lots of brand new blood from fleeing Reddit new users now discovering the Fediverse for the first time. New blood. New ideas.

On the Masto/Fedi side:

I think many are seeing REAL federation from/to an entirely other type of Fedi platform for the first time in the wild.
It really works. Opening eyes.

/r/firefox's new official home is in the Fedi!

From /r/Firefox:

All legacy technical posts will remain available so that searching for help related to the browser is still available, but henceforth and until the reddit admins appropriately reply to our concerns, the only new submissions allowed will be ones that contain the cuddly fuzzy little animals from which the subreddit indirectly received its name:‌

The red panda! Also known as fire foxes. ‌

If you are looking for technical posts, we now have an official community on Kbin. Keep in mind that Lemmy also federates with Kbin. We continue to be around on Matrix as well.

The subreddit & Kbin magazine aren't run by Mozilla but are still a very important forum for the browser.

Do give them a follow on @firefox - you should be able to follow that from most of the Fediverse i.e. Mastodon, Calckey, etc etc etc

Mastodon is experiencing a pretty significant surge in new users today. Probably because of people leaving Reddit and establishing themselves on the .

Well I finally deleted my reddit account, and all of my subreddits, so I guess an introduction is in order!

Hi everybody! I'm an artist, and occasionally a writer. I wrote for a progressive publication for about 6 years, and learned a lot in the process, but haven't written much since. Here's an article I wrote in 2017 about decentralized social media. Please be kind, I had only been writing for a little over a year at that point! But let's focus on THIS point in time right now, the one where we are actually seeing what I wrote about come to pass. It is wonderful to see!

I went back to painting full-time 2-3 years ago, and never looked back, although I did pen an article about AI art during that time, and a blog post about the painting style I developed in 1993.

Here is an example of one of my paintings, it's called "The Lovers". I am loving being here!
[EDIT] Kbin is not letting me link an image, but the one I was going to link is the stickied post on my mastodon profile.

Here's my mastodon ID: @lorenhall
Here I am on Lemmy: https://mander.xyz/u/Loren

Thank you!

I just created this kbin "magazine" which is the equivalent of a "subreddit" on the . Anyone on or can follow it - and add to it - here:

Quick update:

  • fedia.io adds 2000 users today for a total of >16,000 users: https://fedia.io/stats
  • kbin.social is now at around 123,000 users: https://kbin.social/stats
  • fedia.io struggling under the new load, but has stayed up thanks to incredible work by @jerry (send them some love!)
  • kbin.social is slow and still not federating, but it is holding together

Just a reminder to be patient. This is beta code and no one expected such an onslaught. Truly amazing times!

The best outcome of the current Reddit trashfire would be if each subreddit mod team opened their own Kbin server for supporting and migrating their community, running their way. #RedditMigration #Reddit #Kbin #social #fediverse

There has been a lot of teeth-gnashing and angst over the fall of #twitter, but from some of the latest news, I think we will have to start thinking about a much bigger problem: the fall of #Google.

The #twitterMigration and the #redditMigration will be child’s play compared with a #GoogleMigration.

I’ve been looking for my own google alternatives, but everything I’ve found so far is either too complicated or too expensive.

With all this #RedditMigration going on, there's been a renewed interest in #forums, especially with #activitypub integration.

We've got @devnull working on it. I'm hoping we don't miss the boat by the time it can be rolled out, but we want to do right by the #fediverse and come out swinging with a highly interoperable frontend to the fediverse-at-large.

Stay tuned here for more info as the story (and branch) develops!

Reddit Threatens to Remove Moderators From Subreddits Continuing Apollo-Related Blackouts

#redditmigration Never liked #reddit and don't have an account I can close or subreddit to make private, but I don't mind using a free (as in freedom) platform to publish extended notes related to #emacs and usage in academia ... will see how it goes I guess ... using ommnia as my handler since oatmeal is taken 🙄

What I don't get is how to follow and mention from mastodon to kbin... doesn't look like I can follow @ommnia from here, for example.

I follow a few #KBin communities from my main #Fediverse account and checked out both sites. After 1 hour user testing, in English, I think KBin is more accessible from a navigation and interaction standpoint. I tested with Chrome and NVDA, but I mostly follow communities from my main fediverse account. If you want to try it out, copy a magazine URL into the search on your account. check out communities, or Magazines, to follow at https://kbin.social/magazines #Reddit #RedditMigration #Accessibility #A11y

This just in: @gruber is oblivious to the #RedditMigration, refuses to accept that the Fediverse is about protocols and not apps.

So #Reddit has sent us this nice "either you open up your subreddit or else" letter too. We will keep the subreddit private, let's see what their "next steps" look like.

> Our goal here is to ensure that existing mod teams establish a path forward to make sure your subreddit is available for the community that has made its home here.

We have established a path forward, it is using the #Fediverse instead of Reddit.
