Found on #Facebook. Am glad #Malaysia never gave up on trains. But can we have trams back? Imagine them in Penang!
The trains in this pic:
KLIA Express (right) - a train from the international airport to KL Sentral, the central train station
(left, below) KTM Komuter - city transit
LRTs - the rest are light rail transits that come to an from various townships to KL.
For Toronto's Crosstown LRT project, the roads, sidewalks and signals in front of Eglinton West station have been redone. There are several improvements for pedestrian access to the station (which is brilliantly situated on a island surrounded by the entrance and exit to a freeway and a major boulevard). However, for every new inch they have given pedestrians, they have given two to cars: there used to be one turn-lane from each direction to get on the Allen Road Expressway; now each has two.
After London, I had the same excellent experience in Milan to #pay-as-you-go with credit card for #publicTransportation. The nerd in me wants to know how this works? How can be controlled that I have a ticket? In Milan you pay 2.20 Euro for a period of 90 minutes, but you can change between metro, bus or tram #ePayment
This is a good article..and relevant for most of the countries in the world. The dependency on private vehicles especially #car is a big environmental concern. In spite of using #EV the impact on the #environment is not going to come down drastically. We need good #PublicTransportation very urgently.
One way I've enjoyed contributing to the #FuckCars cause is by posting info about local elections, ballot initiatives, public meetings, etc. impacting the future of #PublicTransportation. I believe these are low-risk, high-reward opportunities to support #PublicTransit and change public discourse on the topic. So, I want to start a hashtag campaign, or announce a personal practice, intended to better target this info . . . 1/2
I met M on a train platform in Portland Maine (USA)
He grew up amid gangs and drugs and he made it out
He told me a story about a turtle and a lizard riding on the turtle’s shell. ‘Which is more important - the journey or the destination?’, asked the lizard. ‘The company’, answered the turtle.
M’s story is awesome and his message is “be kind”. It was one of the best conversations I’ve had in my life.
So, lemme get this straight: They built a tiny electric bus that can only hold 10 people and is driverless even though it still needs a driver. Good job?
Just realized that I am going to be riding Amtrak 2 times in the same week soon. One to come home from Cape Cod, and again to go to Washington DC. Fucking love 30th Street Station, so it's nice I get to spend a good amount of time there. #trains #amtrak#transit#publictransit#publictransportation
The #hydrogenpowered ART arrived at Senari Terminal onboard the HF Spirit vessel which berthed at around 8am after a journey of over two weeks from Shanghai Port.
Two fires in one morning rush hour on the TTC. Is there another system with such constant disruption of service? I keep thinking about those billions the City budgeted for but hasn’t spent. Those reserve funds could go a long way towards better transit service and maintenance. #PublicTransportation#Toronto#Governance
Welcome to my Friday cabinet of curiosities, a roundup of stuff I enjoyed this week! Today’s links include the world’s last internet cafes, a secret train ride, and yes, Barbie and Oppenheimer (—but not Barbenheimer) 🖥️🚆👠
Timelapse photographer Vincent Woo attached a camera to a BART train in the Bay Area, capturing footage to create “Tunnel Vision: An Unauthorized BART Ride.”
“A hidden world is revealed through intersecting passageways, flashes of graffiti, and sections of track only witnessed by BART operators.”

@EU_Commission things are far worse over here in North America. I'm excited to be taking the train to and from my fall vacation with my wife and friends but on average, train travel isn't even an option for most people in #Canada, despite being a country built around rail.
Good luck! Keep being an example. #trains#publicTransportation
"More major cities in the United States are letting public transit riders hop on board for free.
Kansas City; Raleigh; Richmond; Olympia; Tucson; Alexandria, Virginia; and other cities are testing dropping fares on their transit systems. Denver is dropping fares across its system this summer. Boston is piloting three zero-fare public bus routes, and New York City is expected to test free buses on five lines"
🚌 🚈 if you're in the twin cities, check this out! metro transit is running a free fare pilot from july 1st, 2023 till december 31st, 2024 for a couple things: bus routes 32 & 62 will be fare-free starting july 1st, plus local bus & light rail rides will be free for metro mobility riders starting on the 1st as well!

It has been a while. It is nice to see the new line coming online....
