The more I look into private and secure email the more I get slightly overwhelmed with information. There are many options. Before I take the plunge into completely moving my email and going through that hassle I thought it would see if anyone have experience with @protonmail, @fastmail#Skiff#Tunanota or any others.
Thanks in advance and please boost this toot so I can get many different opinions.
SimpleX Chat – #private and #secure#opensource messenger without user IDs of any kind (not even random numbers) – v5.2 with message delivery receipts and more stable message delivery is now released to App Store and Play Store!
Been using #grapheneos for about a week now and I just have to say WOW! I don't think I've ever had an experience on my phone that feels like I'm using my #Linux desktop/laptop. The amount of control this OS gives back to me that google and apple took away is staggering. I know no piece of tech is 100% #private or #secure . But damn is this close!
Second, the platform will continue, as all centrally owned social media platforms, to harvest #userdata and then use these often #private#data to advertise to you
Lastly, as many of you on #mastodon know: we don’t need yet another billionaire controlled social media platform. This is why I’ve killed all of my #Reddit and #Twitter accounts.
How do you all try to stay #private on the internet? I have my own recursive DNS set up, I use a #selfhosted search engine (SearXNG), I run #CalyxyOS of my phone, and I recently just set up my main WiFi network to route outbound traffic through a #VPN... Having some issues with usability with specific websites on that last one though...
Anyways just asking for a friend who doesn't need corporate america to know she's #genderfluid...
Oh duh I also have run redundant piholes and TRY to use Signal to talk w/ folks too!
Using things like Vivaldi's tracker blocker will make it harder to for those with ill intentions to recognise you and build up a profile of your activities.
I live my life this way, nobody tracks me, as I always blend right in! 🤔
#Private#corporations don't have the power to stop anyone from speaking. They can #choose not to carry someone's speech on their own platform, but that's all. That's an #editorial#decision, and perfectly valid. The speaker can go to any other platform and speak, including standing on a soapbox in a public park, starting their own blog - or #fediverse instance.
#Government saying "channel X must not be #broadcast in this country" is entirely different.
Okay... so why is my low specificity * margin overridding my higher specificity :root margin? Am I losing my mind? As you can see, no cascade layers are involved.
When John Snobelen, the Minister of Education during the Mike Harris years, was caught on tape saying he wanted to create a crisis in education to then break it, it cost the #Conservatives the government.
Years later, rather than create stability, the lesson the Doug Ford government has learned is - do not say your plans out loud.
Conservatives know that if voters actually knew their plan, they would never be elected.
And using a special instance account, like @leuchtturm as the public admin account, makes the moderation more obscure and not less. It means you lack an understanding about who and how decisions are made.
@jaredwhite@leaverou Seems like this is a good time to catch this. I've been writing Web components exclusively for the first time, and only in .mjs for our integrations - started using #private for class methods and was looking at it for properties.
I always wonder if the implementors of a lot of browser features have shipped any actual software outside of their little bubble? If that was true I don't think we'd have such a bad API for streams.
With Private Internet Access you can either use the main app or Openvpn Connect (helpdesk.privateinternetaccess.com)
I just resolved my problem with the VPN dropping by using Openvpn Connect.
