Just installed the toot CLI Mastodon Clinet within my WSL.

Actually really like it, feels very old school and reminds me of using BBS's in the 90's.

Strike that, just realised it's just a python module so now installed it under windows proper.

@knickish this looks so cool and I was briefly tempted to dig out my old Palm m105 until I remembered it didn't have any sort of internet connectivity.

@Forbearance @knickish oh. I had not appreciated the significance of the "conduit" (my palm has been in a box for years and I knew some of the later models did have WiFi so just assumed!)

Heads up to anyone using facebook or insta: you'll receive a notification about your data being used to train AIs. The opt out process is deliberately convoluted and you have to fill out a form to object. This is what I wrote in mine, and the objection was immediately registered as successful, so feel free to copy.

Masto reply bores, this is not a post on which to fart out your opinions about Meta or AI or whatever. So don't. I'm sharing helpful info for people who need it, not for you.

@interpipes @stavvers thank you for this thread, especially that second part quoting ICO rules at them.

Also triple thank you for putting it all in the alt text so I can easily plagiarize.

    @nateb prediction: in 9 months time SonyAI™️ is launched, trained exclusively on Sony Music content.

    Bro wants to "create" something that sounds like an Adele album? they'll have to pay to use the SonyAI™️ model to generate it.

    @stefan I saw that story and just went to look at slack too find out more, however it now tells me:

    Did you delete it entirely,?

    @stefan ah that makes some sense as I've predominantly been a lurker recently. I'm still a bit wary about DMs on mastodon for anything with personal details but I'll drop you an email. (Which admittedly is also plain text but at least I have a better understanding of where that goes)

    matt, to Cat
    @matt@oslo.town avatar

    Do you have a cat and do you feed it pouches of food and do you tear open those pouches with your hand at the point that is specifically made for tearing instead of cutting them with scissors and does the cat food juice spray across your hand almost every time you open it or is that just me?

    #Cat #Cats #CatOwner #CatOwnerProblems #JustCatThings

    snail,
    @snail@crmbl.uk avatar

    @matt I always shake the pouch first to shift most of the food to the bottom. This avoids it being in the tear zone and smushes it up a bit rather than coming out as a slab.

    To avoid sounding like a smug git I should add that sometimes I shake too hard and the pouch fails along the tear line as I'm shaking, goes flying and splats against a wall or cupboard as food goes everywhere.

    I have three cats.

    Edit: reading the Snopes page fully shows that while technically correct, the main perpetrator of the fraud received a 30 year sentence. 15 years for the $100 theft still seems pretty disproportionate though, even if their were other unreported factors.

    @unsaturated I am now annoyed with myself for not reading all the way to the bottom of that Snopes article. I normally rate the site quite highly but I think in this case it could have done with highlighting that earlier on the page. 😔

    Hey Game Devs, you know that cool font you've picked for your RPG, how about also adding an accessibility option that uses a standard width sans serif font too, and a slider or something to adjust sizing.

    I've lost count of the amount of demos I've downloaded and immediately deleted because the text is unreadable.

    Yes the Switch has a built in zoom option, but that's a pain for text heavy games.

    I was just checking something on a BBS I use and came across some source files I wrote 27 years ago.

    I say "came across" I knew they were there and I was hunting for something near to them, but seeing it written so starkly still caused a double take.

    Now I feel old.

    @ChildlessBambino @kero @elk @phanpy I endorse both of these, used Elk until recently but recently swapped to Phanpy as my default.

    If you do want an "app" then @Tusky is pretty good too. It's my fall back option (it has full features support which was useful especially when Elk was a reality early Alpha).

    @snail@crmbl.uk avatar

    One of my most favourite features of @phanpy is the experimental "Switch to <user's> instance" option.

    I get to see all the comments on a post (or all the posts on a profile) but it stays in the same interface I've grown fond of (including the beautiful threading)

    @tpolecat this brings back memories

    I was at uni just as they started charging for use of the laser printers, but if you knew where to look* you could still find these and they were free.

    One time I went to use it only to find it had jammed up because someone was printing their postscript to it but the printer didn't support that so was printing the raw ASCII.

I refer to these as “Power-Boosters” and they are the key to keeping your feed awesomely diverse, extremely lively and damn-near algorithmic (in a good way).
