What I've learned about #Fediverse (#Mastodon#Calckey etc) condensed to help others.

If there are subjects I don't want to deal with I can set filter words in my profile settings which will stop certain topics from showing up in my feeds.
#Fediverse & it's different platforms+software have masses of clever tools, & different ways to access. You communicate with people all over the Fediverse, across different platforms.
So much more to explore, new projects, new apps:
#PixelFed like Instagram but not constantly trying to sell you stuff #PeerTube like Youtube but not ads based #Friendica like Facebook but not harvesting your data or radicalising your relatives #Mastodon millions use it as Twitter without all the Nazis #Calckey a really smooth & fun new Twitter replacement with loads more features than Twitter
& many more to discover. They all communicate together, you can use any or all, keep your people, your following circles across all of them.
Months ago, I looked through Lemon8's site, fooled around, and came to the same conclusion as the reviewer. But I'm also nowhere near Bytedance's targeted demographic for this, so reading from someone who is bring clarity.
That said, I am a big fan of the Instagram and Pinterest experience, but those apps have been enshittified long ago, and I've been hoping for good Fediverse contenders for awhile. This is why I can continue to run my #Pixelfed server since this is such a critical app.
I hope can all collectively build something more compelling than Lemon8.
A massive thank you to to every server admin on the #Fediverse who tried to keep their server going under the tsunami wave of posts about Eurovision - whether your server was #Mastodon, #Calckey, #Pixelfed, #Friendica, etc. You all did a fantastic job on the night, no matter the result. I would like to think everyone cannot thank you enough.
Seeing everyone participate in Eurovision on the Fediverse was spectacular. I've never seen so much excitement and chatter before. I felt like I was part of a wholesome community - something I've longed for in other social media platforms, but never truly got with all the anger, aggression, and trolling. None of that was here, and it made the Fediverse absolutely beautiful! ❤️

I would like to endorse other minor web apps in the #Fediverse, but most of them are full of UI glitches, are incomplete and downright buggy looking odd things.
From my designer point of view #Mastodon and #Pixelfed are the only effective ones, because they speak to people who are used to proper visual design language (read: Non-nerds, non-engineers, the regular people and design oriented people).
Things like #BookWyrm, #Lemmy, #Friendica and newer niche apps cause reactions like: "What is this?", they look like back end is fine but nobody is in charge of the design and the UI has no direction whatsoever. It's the general culprit in the programming world: A back end developer thinks everything is fine when we add a CSS framework and that's that.
If we just get the UI right everywhere, we get more people to the #Fediverse. I just wish there was more #CSS/design people willing to contribute. #UI#UIDesign
One aspect of #mastodon I don't recall seeing much info about is the groups feature. It is a mastodon feature isn't it? Anyway, assuming it is a feature, how does one create a group on mastodon?
Also if I'm wrong and there in fact isn't a group feature in mastodon, then I withdraw the question.
@LibertyForward1 Mastodon does not do groups. It recognizes when an ActivityPub "actor" is a group instead of a person by adding a "group" tag and allows you to mention and otherwise interact with groups, but those groups are created using other ActivityPub platforms such as #friendica and #pixelfed
Groups have been on Masto's "to do" list for awhile and may eventually arrive but it is so microblog-centric it is potentially a pretty disruptive change at several levels.
Yay I figured out how to federate my #pixelfed (instagram clone) feed into my mastodon (twitter clone) feed.
🗝️The key is to
1️⃣follow your :pix: pixelfed account in :mastodon: masto.
2️⃣ :loading: Then, when you post in pixelfed it appears in your masto home feed.
3️⃣ :boost_ok: Then boost yourself. Voilà. :mastodondance:
i am in the favour of fediverse services' onboarding process to provide a default instance for users signing up - but instead of defaulting them to the "official" instance, recommend them to a single instance selected randomly from a list of trusted and verified instances (those that pledge to the service, to meet and uphold certain requirements). any service that could do that would be really neat as it tackles the issue of users being overwhelmed on what instance should they choose in a list of many when they just want to use the service, as well as centralisation concerns. i know it's probably not that simple, but i'm not aware why it couldn't be?

I hope to make an art-only account on the FediVerse. But #PixelFed seems broken for my account there - and so far I get zero support from either PixelFed or the admin of my instance.
Sadly I must assume it's not ready 😕
I'm not sure yet if I should switch instance or switch to Mastodon. I'm hoping to reach a wider community ... so I'm tending to make a .social account, rather than an .art one. Is that a good solution? Any other options?
