As someone who never liked #Twitter because it felt like 10 people talking at me, it is surprising to see the emotional reaction people are having to this rebranding.

FWIW I am sorry that your community was destroyed and this place you invested emotional energy in is dying. I’m sorry this place isn’t exactly that and I hope it can fulfill that spot for you. Or #bluesky or #threads or whatever.

@matdevdug Many people join twitter many years ago and for a long time, it was very different than how it is now.
Though I think its stupid to become emotionally attached to a social media, I get how people are disappointed by all the changes that has been happening lately. Especially this latest one.

Usually I have some bandwidth to spare especially when I'm AFK. I have the habit of downloading the latest ISO of some Linux distros and seed them on torrent as a way to give back to the community and also reduce part of the bandwidth cost for these distros.

Attached is what I have at the moment.

Question: Which distros I should add to this collection considering the following criteria:

  1. no big corporate behind it
  2. should not be Gnome-only distro
  3. should be actively maintained

I'm using #gnome 44.3 again on manjaro and it feels more polished in performance BUT I can't with its workflow without extensions, specially without Dash to panel at the top. #Linux

    I had an idea last night about an awesome potential #Mastodon #Fediverse #ActivityPub capability to take #selfhost #selfhosting to the next level. Could a Mastodon (et al) server be "packaged" tightly enough that it could essentially act as an application on any desktop/laptop computer, or even mobile, so that you could truly "carry your Mastodon instance with you"? The biggest hurdle would be finding a way to ensure your domain name was transportable regardless of physical IP address. #AskFedi

    @chris That’s just impossible, for so many reasons. You should first look into how #Mastodon or any web application works for understanding why that’s impossible.

    How exactly do you want to have all services "packaged up"? Especially on mobile. I'm very curious to know.
    How would you run the services.
    IP is the easiest part to take care of.
    How would you handle the huge level of loud on the server when you keep turning the server on and off?
    How do you do the initial configuration?
    Have you seen the level of read and write on the database on a live mastodon instance?
    Also how is it gonna work on mobile? How can you run SQL and... on mobile?

    @chris pretty much all of the services here (like SQL, web server, etc etc) need to run as system level services. Something that is just impossible on mobile because of the software restrictions.
    But mobile storage is not meant for that level of read and write. Or yes mobile processors are very powerful nowadays. But they're also easily throttled because of the heat they generate by intensive processes. And let's not even mention the limited battery.
    These are only some of many limitations.

    Can anyone tell me why my toot on the resumption of capital punishment in Alabama on July 20 got deleted?

    I was just reporting the news, NOT advocating capital punishment. None of my social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Insta, etc.) or #Medium has ever deleted anything I wrote. Why stay on this me.dm instance if you have less freedom of speech than on other social media or on @medium itself?

    Has anyone else ever had me.dm delete a toot?

    @janiceharayda @medium It’s not just your instance. That’s #Mastodon/#Fediverse culture of zero tolerance toward anything "they" don’t like. Also, be very careful with #FreeSpeech hashtag, cuz people here easily call you Nazi for it.
