    @withaveeay yes, we’re off to a particularly unsettled and wet winter this year.

    Not sure if you know UCT’s CSAG site? They do a good job of tracking the cumulative numbers over various years.

    I think I really need to give this app a try. I'm ashamed to say #Twitter is my favorite app. I am so active on there, and I have so many friends. But today, I got this..

    I have never in my lifetime had any of my social media accounts suspended.. EVER..

    Ever since Elon took over, the app has gradually gone downhill. He promotes hate and filters #trans and #lgbtq people through algorithms..

    Just got woken up (2:40am) by a magnitude 4.8 earthquake in #Joburg with the whole house rattling, birds screaming and dogs barking.

    I still follow a relatively small number of people here but I’m already getting more value out of this network than I got out of late stage #Twitter.

    Curation takes time & is ongoing, but I love the range I get from the #Fediverse: from people with quirky niche interests to - increasingly - real-time updates on global issues.

    A network needs critical mass, but it doesn’t have to contain half the world’s population in order to be valuable. We should free ourselves from such #BigTech hype.

    @misc well said. There are days when I struggle to get through everything available here, so there is more than enough to keep me informed and entertained. And totally with you on avoiding any obsession with growth numbers. This is what got us in trouble in the old, bad places.

    Dear #fediverse, @fdrc_ck suggested yesterday a federated Grindr and I despise the company so much and hate they have so much power over the way we Rainbow People socialise with each other in many places that ........I actively want to destroy them by creating an open source, ad-free version.

    What do you think of this? Does it make sense?

    Just back from a birthday hike in the mountains.

    Marloth nature reserve perches on a stretch of the Langeberg Mountain range that towers above Swellendam, .

    This range prevents most precipitation from reaching the arid Little Karoo landscape beyond. But this ocean side stays lush with green .

    We’ve just missed the local proteas in full bloom, but still a good specimen here and there.

    @hnygd ah I wish! We rented for the weekend. It’s on a farm outside of Swellendam with this and some other cottages right up against the mountains. It was bliss.
