@lupomancer This is why I've been using SimpleLogin aliases for practically everything for the last several months. Makes it easy to simply disable messages from services that don't handle opt-out requests properly.
I really love writing game narrative so much. It is like book plotting on supercharged steroids. :D
Also huge recommendation for anyone who has a big project underway - Milanote - virtual mindmapping is really easy on it, and it has a free version that works on both PC and mobile. (:
Accessible notifications with ARIA Live Regions: @SaraSoueidan shared 2 free text-only excerpts from her Practical Accessibility video course with you on her blog:
Also, these are Goody Forever ties, which I highly recommend for anyone with the need to pull their hair back. I've been using the black ones for a while, but the new colored ones work just as well in addition to looking rad. #NotSponsored
Gotta say, @Mojeek is pretty awesome on the #Dillo browser on this my super-distraction-free #OpenBSD writing laptop.
Good on you guys. I have an easier time using you than #DuckDuckGo on low-tech web browsers. I think I'll switch all my super-low-end web 1.0 browsing to #mojeek ;)
I don't know who needs to hear this but if you want to glue black plastics but are annoyed by CA glue's usual white or shiny residue then check out Bob Smith Industries' IC-2000 rubber toughened CA glue in black. The rubber makes it matte and the black nicely blends with plastic. #miniatures#3Dprinting#notSponsored
lazyweb: is there anything like a legal right to be able to enter and exit one's home without being surveilled by a neighbor's camera?
i know there's no expectation of privacy in public, but say you live at the end of a cul-de-sac and can't go anywhere without passing by someone's place, and they're constantly filming and upload it all to the cloud where it's retained forever and AI is trained off the video of you, at some point this seems unjust, right?
@inquiline@scott Needless to say that I'd disrecommend to use #ring or other crap like it and at most use a self-hosted if not onsite DVR setup instead as this allows them to comply with deletion requests.
A workmate and very good friend of mine has created Kudos, a Slack application that you can add to your workspace to send kudos to your workmates, complete with leader boards and customisable settings for a low, low price.
We’ve been using it in our Slack workspace and it’s used multiple times a day, give it a go! https://kudos-app.au/
Over the past week, I've been writing somewhat voluminously about my experience #3DPrinting with my new Qidi X-Max 3. #notsponsored
TL;DR: I'm very satisfied. I'm getting high quality prints. If you have never used a #3DPrinter you might have a lot of questions. On the other hand, I started my 3D printing journey with a far far worse printer and here I am enjoying the hobby! I have gotten timely responses from support in response to quite a few questions.
Now they have released a Linux build of their QIDISlicer fork of PrusaSlicer. Previously I had to ask support who gave me a build of their previous version.
Anyway, if you'd like to buy a fast, accurate printer from a vendor who actually appears to be complying with Open Source license obligations, you could do worse. At their current $999 price, if I had the purchase decision to make again, I'd make the same decision to buy it. Best value printer I've bought yet.
Also related is that genz is getting older than 25, their parents insurance won’t cover them anymore and the minimum wage is still not livable. But sure, spin it however you want.
@codekoan Also people demand #Repairable devices not only because they like #repairability and hate avoidable #eWaste but most people in the #USA can't even afford a surprise $400 expense.
So it makes total sense to choose something cheaper that if it breaks can be repaired cost-effectively - like a @Fairphone ...
Welp, I got my old Nokia 6.1 (2018) up and mostly operational now.
I even have it mostly de-googled, thanks to TrackerControl (marvelous app!)
I guess I'm parking here (again) until the Fairphone 5 comes out.
Sadly, my Pixel only lasted me 2.61 years. That's a lot less than my beloved iPhone 4 (3.27y), and my cursèd Green iPhone 5c (3.66y)
I'm forcibly degoogling this dinky Nokia as much as I can, but with a locked bootloader, it's hard work.
Apple is just about as privacy-rapey as goog, they just make a feeble show of protecting your privacy from third parties. They themselves snoop the crap outta you.
Todays #FossilFriday is in honor of the new Jurassic Park Evolution 2 DLC that dropped this week. An #Archelon from the Fukui Prefectoral Dinosaur Museum. Seeing the fossil up close is the only way I feel you get a good scale of how big these turtles used to be!
Whenever news breaks of bad decisions a popular product, there's a flurry of recommendations of various alternatives, and in that mix there's always folks extolling the virtues of hosting your own.
As a person who works on security for an open source project, my spicy take is this: unless you enjoy being your own sysadmin (some folks do!), any hosted solution from a vendor that is currently reputable and currently has acceptable terms is a better, safer option than self-hosting.
Same goes for other options:
There are several Providers that offer #Managed@nextcloud#Nextcloud and #OpenXchange for very affordable per-user or per-storage quota plans.
Storing your personal data, family photos, and other files in the cloud may be utilized for machine learning and AI purposes by ToS. It doesn't matter if it is a free or paid service. These greedy companies will not stop. Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent this from happening besides discontinuing the use of nearly all cloud services.
I’m not sure if it is entirely accurate to compare them in this way, as “Matrix” refers to simply the protocol, whereas “Signal” could refer to the applications, server, and protocol. That being said, is there any fundamental difference in how the Matrix ecosystem of federated servers, and independently developed...
for decentralyzed private and anonymous messaging, try Session. its like cross between matrix and signal. it is supposed to hide metadata, not just message content. #notsponsored
How does using Matrix compare with using Signal, privacy-wise?
