Why are some fonts easier to read than others? According to Niko Kitsakis, a big part of it is familiarity for the users. Other influencing factors are the uniqueness of each character (especially Iliad) and where the font is used (full text, vs only words like on road signs). Context is king!

I love nice repeatable geometric patterns, don't we all?
If you need help generating them, I've got a nice tool for you: https://patternpad.com/editor.html

@stephaniewalter@front-end.social avatar

@cferdinandi for a long time I thought I didn't stim and then, I paid attention, and, oooh, yeah

  • playing with my hair, ALL THE TIME. Wonder why I have one perfect curl on the left side? Heheh
  • playing with hair bands that are not in the hair (the spiral hair ties are the best, like those old spiral telephone wires)
  • doodeling, on anything, including my classmate arms, it used to make my teacher very angry, they would quizz me and get disappointed that I could site what they just said
stephaniewalter,
@stephaniewalter@front-end.social avatar

@cferdinandi

  • rings: they never stay on my fingers (and of course I lose them all the time), they are yet another fidget to play with. I've a couple of rings that have a circle that can move (often they are sold as antistress) that I can put on my thumb.
  • chewing on pens, I try to avoid this but sometimes do it without noticing (don't lend me a pen, once I bit in it, it becomes mine)

Blocks is a plugin to speed up your wireframe process in Figma: it lets you drag and drop pre-defined wireframes components in your file directly.
Plugin: https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/1332372435133832847/blocks

@iergo aucune idée, je pense?

stephaniewalter,
@stephaniewalter@front-end.social avatar

stephaniewalter,
@stephaniewalter@front-end.social avatar

stephaniewalter,
@stephaniewalter@front-end.social avatar

stephaniewalter,
@stephaniewalter@front-end.social avatar

stephaniewalter,
@stephaniewalter@front-end.social avatar

stephaniewalter,
@stephaniewalter@front-end.social avatar

We can have a different web (16min): a beautiful yet sad essay by Molly White on how the web, that once was an open garden where people shared seeds and visited each other’s garden became a wall garden, where algorithms dictate whose flowers you will and will not see. But, it’s not too late to change that. I loved her metaphor!
Also remember the hampster dance ?

@yatil haaa. I remember when I was teaching HTML, I made the mistake of teaching that you can replace the bullets in lists with images. So, I had a student who brought the dancing banana GIF in there, and I had this list, with dancing bananas instead of bullets that made me cry out of laughter so hard.

Some people asked "when do I get time to read articles?!"
Here's the secret: folding and gluing is very boring on its own so I'm basically listening to them while I craft.
Latest piece: a lampshade prototype with the most exquisite paper 💜

I've a strange relationship with the paper: I collect a lot of them but then, if I use them, they are gone. So, making a lamp means it's still quite intact and I get to enjoy it. Win win.

@paulcuth not really but I can package you the SVGs for the MVP in a .zip file, than you can use those with any cutting machine you want if you are interested?

Did you know that, the "the customer is always right" saying, dates back from the 1900's, in the very specific context of retail and hospitality? And, the whole sentence was actually “The customer is always right — in matters of taste.”
While customer feedback is important, businesses should balance it with strategic decision-making. Otherwise, you become a feature factory.

Is the Customer always right? It depends by Alexandros Shomper on Medium (5min):
