It's not often I revisit a review, but that's just what I've done with my review of D-Link's Aquila Pro AI Mesh system, now with test results for two and three node systems.
(If you're already asleep, it's home wifi mesh gear. Makes things go faster, in theory... and, it turns out, in the real world too!)
Is there any text-based, ideally distributed monitoring software out there? I want a TUI that shows me (e.g. with green/red highlights) the reachability of hosts (simple ping checks) while I'm doing network maintenance. Like a really simple, curses based nagios? It would probably look like a bloomberg terminal.. (I know this wouldn't be too hard to implement.. but I can't really believe it's not already out there...) #linux#TUI#monitoring#network#networking#sysadmin#software#curses
I just wasted about 2 hours of my time trying to figure out why a server would only connect at 100Mbit instead of the expected 1Gbit.
I had all sorts of ideas, NIC, driver, driver settings, switch related ... and in the end, I almost don't dare to say it, it turned out to be a cabling problem ... you know, there's a tiny little difference between a Cat5 and a Cat5e cable ...
Who the heck still has Cat5 patch cables lying around?!! ... me, for example 😱 but one less now!!
What’s a good appreciation gift for a team member who cracks the case? Today a network admin in our IT team caught an ancient sftp server being abused and shut it down. I’m thinking a 6 pack of craft beer.
What has your team done for people who go above and beyond in finding and stopping incidents?
This tool is used to spoof DHCP servers. It sends fake DHCP offers to a specific network interface and manipulates the IP addresses of network devices.
Are you a Network Engineer or Architect looking for a new challenge in a company driven by a shared goal of improving research & education connectivity globally?
I've got the 192.168.1.x network with HA in there. Now, I've got an #OpenWrt router with the IP 192.168.1.190 creating 2 new networks: 192.168.100.x. I now want to get the HA into the 192.168.100.x network, but I can't connect it physically, as both the OpenWrt and HomeAssistant run in containers/VMs on #proxmox. I tried experimenting with IP routes, but no success. Does anyone have a clue for me?
This is a very good piece on how the invisible seafaring industry that is keeping the internet afloat, bit at the same time, cable ships are breaking down and need to be replaced instead of repairing. Not a good sign.
Anyone got an idea what could cause irregular #network lag on an #ArchLinux machine on a wired network?
We already ruled out cable, NIC and such stuff and system usage is fine, same with iotop and journalctl. We really are out of ideas.
VoIP tools lag behind (some sentences are send directly, some are only received by participants after up to 3 seconds) as well as games which act like lag spikes but without the latency going ham. Wireshark reports basically no dropped packages. #Help. #Linux
