Aktuell empört man sich (vornehmlich auf Twitter) über den Messenger WhatsApp. Angeblich soll WhatsApp nachts das Mikrofon mehrmals allein aktiviert haben. Offen gesagt verstehe ich die Aufregung nicht wirklich. WhatsApp war nie, ist nie und wird nie ein vertrauenswürdiger Messenger sein. Es gibt aber genug Alternativen. 👇

We apparently don't receive crash reports sent through Apple's mechanisms anymore and in the past those were not really useful anyways because they lacked many viable informations.

Maybe #Monal 6.0 (when it is done) will solve this.
There is a Beta available in Testflight but it currently only allows audiocalls from Monal Beta to Monal Beta.
As far as I know the release should be compatible with other #xmpp apps.
The XMPP iOS situation is getting better but it is not perfect.
Have you convinced a full normie to #XMPP? How has it gone? Were there any problems or need of being help desk? Why is "ok" Monal the best client for iOS?
Problem is: Apple is hostile towards #freeSoftware and small scale software developers. They seem to put unreasonable burden on devs, such as "you must use a Mac for iOS development" and also pay them to be able to distribute a free-of-charge app. They do not even allow an #FDroid equivalent for iOS.
For a VC funded company, that's not a big deal, but for independent (and often hobbyist) developers, it is. That drives many devs towards Android.

A typical "full normie" forgets their password and at some point (new device or whatever) they need it. Quicksy solves this by using the phone number as id and SMS password reset.
A #Monal fork with the same functionality would be awesome.
Ich stiege eher von iOS auf #Mobian oder eine einigermaßen freie Android-Variante um als von #Jabber auf ein anderes Chatsystem 🙂
Gegen Matrix ist im Prinzip nichts zu sagen. Es ist frei und federiert wie #XMPP, hat aber eine Finanzierung in ganz anderer Größenordnung. Ich habe an @Monal mal etwas Geld gespendet, aber da fehlten wohl ein paar Nullen 😞
@debacle@prav@tigase@snikket_im@Monal We are leaning towards #Snikket because it has background notifications working (we confirmed this). We have not yet confirmed if #Monal background notifications work, if we confirm this, we might go with Monal, since it seems more actively developed compared to #Siskin. It also seems to have caught up with Siskin/Snikket on features with audio calls added recently.
Solo restan 4 cadenas por traducir, pero la verdad es que sin ningún dispositivo de Apple en la mano se hace muy difícil entender el contexto para hacer la traducción correcta de ciertas cadenas.
Aún así, logré que el Español (Latinoamérica) sea el cuarto lenguaje en alcanzar (casi) el 100% de su traducción 😊
