in the latest monocles chat release which should come next week to F-Droid and the Playstore we improved the implementation of webxdc. There are many different webxdc apps you can use inside monocles chat.
You can now even play chess or other games with your friends 🎉
People who already used a previous version of monocles chat from the Play Store should be aware that this version needs to be manually installed because it had to be uploaded with a new ID. In this case you need to remove the old version and install the new one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.monocles.chat
Do not forget that it is also available on #froid and #codeberg.
The app #monocleschat has been published in the Play Store. This means: More choice for Play Store users when selecting #XMPP apps.
The app is not offered for free but if you are not willing to pay for it and want to use the Play Store, it might be a good idea to have a look in the Play Store in the next days.

Die App ist kostenpflichtig. Wenn man davon abgeschreckt ist, sollte man die Seite des Play Stores zeitnah über Weihnachten besuchen.
Ich vermute, dass die #MonoclesChat-App für die Anfragen verantwortlich ist und weniger der kontaktierte Dienst. Aber Verbindungziele, die im Protkoll nur mit einem Punkt oder als simples "net" oder "eu" auftauchen, sind für mich dubios. Bis ich eventuell mehr herausgefunden habe fliegt die App vom Smartphone. #XMPP
I recommend #XMPP - #OMEMO for most users [#Gajim and #monoclesChat are excellent clients for that!] but if you are an organization then consider #Zulip and if you already have a #Mailserver and use #PGP / MIME then @delta / #DeltaChat may be a good option [tho I'd recommend using a seperate eMail account for that!]...
Just learnt that #MonoclesChat (apparently) supports running #WebXDC apps over #XMPP, but I'm not able to figure out how it works. Anyone used it? :xmpp:
Where I speak some advantages Signal has over the bigger richer rest of tech:

The input line has been redesigned. Emojis are easier to handle now. It should look more familiar to users of other messengers.
You can set a background for the chatview.
Reactions can be send more easily (message selection).
The usage of the HW AEC has been disabled for the #Fairphone4 leading to a better videocall experience for #FP4 owners.

Again: #MonoclesChat + #Orbot and one of many #XMPP servers and you get #secure comms and even if the provider/admins are held and gunpoint and forced to log everything, all they see are #Tor#ExitNodes and/or other @torproject Tor nodes and only scrambled stuff...
Cryptography is a tool for turning a whole swathe of problems into key management problems. Key management problems are way harder than (virtually all) cryptographers think.
