Whenever our @digigeolab has had to involve university lawyers into the process of acquiring #data, the whole project starts to bog down. In some cases, for over 6 years.. ugghh.
However, sometimes the universe provides.
A contract on a massive #geospatial#mobility dataset has just got signed in record time: two months! This is with the presence of lawyers, corporate interests, and university bureaucracy. I am stunned, but happy!
We were contacted by a local agency that would like a presentation on educating their clients on how to prepare and stay safe during an emergency
"Many of the patients are in wheelchairs or use some sort of mobility assistance and a significant amount of them are seniors."
We are considering focusing on three topics:
"72 hour kits" with attention to things like backup generators/inverters, extra medications and/or equipment, and portability.
sheltering in place
planning for evacuation
We are waiting to hear if these folks are in licensed care homes of any sort (in California licensed facilities would be required to have emergency plans in place)
Would there be anything else that we should cover?
feels so nice to see bird go bankrupt. it weaved such an attractive tale about how littering the streets with scooters was going to make mobility so much better, and it really only got in people’s way.
my criticism of dockless scooters was probably the part of my book that got the biggest pushback, but i feel like this is further vindication of my argument against them.
Finland has an extensive and now rapidly deteriorating network of asphalt roads, mainly built in the 1960s and 1970s when cars were the future of mobility. Now this is starting to look like a mistake, it is likely that there never will be enough money to repair the network faster than it decays. At some point more radical choices need to be made, foremost changing road surfaces to gravel. How has this been managed elsewhere? #mobility#traffic

War heute mit @SheDrivesMobility bei #ANYMOS im triangel.space, wo sie die Keynote gehalten hat. Es ging dabei (wie sollte es bei Katja anders sein) um Mobilität. Dieses mal allerdings im #Datenrausch
Es ging dabei um rechtliche Probleme bei der Erstellung, Nuzung und Auswertung von Bewegunungsdaten der Verkehrsteilnehmer (ungeachtet des benutzten Verkehrsmittels) um sie für eine Optimierung des Angebots nutzen zu können ohne preisgabe persönlicher Daten. War sehr interessant!
@mathegudrun@SheDrivesMobility es war ein sehr informativer Abend, bei dem viele unterschiedliche Sichtweisen von wirklich fachkundigen Individuen sich zum Meinungsaustausch getroffen haben und bewusst die Mitarbeit der Besucher gesucht haben. Was mich persönlich etwas geschockt hat, war das Scheitern einer #mobility#app für ganz Deutschland, weil jeder Verkehrsbetrieb seine 'eigene' App mit ihrem eigenen Logo haben wollte. So wird das mit nutzeroptimiertem Deutschlandtakt nie was.
The distribution of values means a linear gradient only shows the busiest of sea lanes. So I used log10(log10(value)) to normalise values with #qgis raster calculator.
