India has banned Element, the most widely used Matrix client. I know it's just a client, but to be safe it's wiser to stay away from matrix for a while. So please help us in this regard.

There is also ongoing work in some clients to implement a newer version of OMEMO (nick-named newmemo or omemo2) that offers much improved metadata encryption compared to the current standard that encrypts the text body. #xmpp#jabber
Question to anyone who uses #profanity as #XMPP client: how do you receive a file sent via HTTP File Upload? I know you can use /sendfile to send it, encrypted with OMEMO, even, but I'm yet to know how to receive it, and it's driving me nuts... what's the command?
I've found this #XEP0 but it shows as experimental so I was wondering whether discussions were happening somewhere or if one can add a +1 about it somewhere.
I know it will sound stupid or just not a priority to some people but unfortunately, stickers are a requirement for many of my friends when it comes to #instantMessaging.
@silmathoron Not so well. #Moxxy ( https://moxxy.org/ ) is AFAIK the only client that has implemented XEP-0449. #Movim has their own old system that I think only #Pidgin somewhat understands otherwise, and #Cheogram recently added a sticker-picker but it just shares http_upload images. #xmpp#jabber
My guess: Nowadays #Jabber is mainly used for private communication, i.e. either one-to-one or very small groups.
#XMPP#MUCs have some scaling issues, which make them unsuitable for large groups. The problems get solved, e.g. by not sending (or updating?) presence in MUC, or by replacing MUC with #MIX, but here we are.
At the moment, I would not recommend a MUC for thousands of members. But my knowledge might be outdated.
I don't remember the details, but when a group of some thousand of people asked about having a #Jabber#MUC, the local #XMPP experts advised against it. They said, it would not scale, esp. because of presence, but maybe there was more.
Maybe the issue is already solved and I'm talking about yesterdays problems?

I don’t understand the drama around this. Not like it’s removing other instances, or the ability to switch instances afterwards. It just gives an easier way in for people who don’t understand the instances concept.
It’s a good thing. Anything that helps onboarding is a good thing, and no, it doesn’t mean the developer has gone evil or wants to centralize things. 🙄🙄

Until Jabber Foundation said something like "We spend all of our money and money of our sponsors to keep the instance alive with all this traffic. This cannot continue. We are shutting it down."
