Puisque je vois des gens parler de #Wikipediafr à nouveau : j'ai laissé un message pour souligner que la page sur la raffle du vel-d'hiv contien un paragraphe qui laisse penser que Pétain a protégé les juifs de france, si ca dit à quelqu'un de se pencher sur le sujet et de suggerer des modifications (j'avoue qu'en etant une personne trans juive qui connait rien au fonctionnement et codes de wikipedia et qui est pas non plus la personne la plus calée en historiographie de la période je passes un peu mon tour)

@Camille_Poulsard @Nershelam une chance sur deux que la clique habituelle dénonce un "rameutage d'extrême-gauche" et annule toutes les modifications, puis que ça parte en débat, puis qu'à la fin ils aient banni tout le monde sauf les fachos et qu'ils en rajoutent encore au revisionnisme

Ça fait deux jours que je suis fasciné par ce qui se passe dans le monde de la sécurité informatique, autour de la backdoor XZ. Je vais essayer de vous l'expliquer, ça va être technique, mais c'est important.

Pour Internet, c'est l'équivalent d'un gros astéroïde qui serait passé à 5000km de la Terre. Pas d'impact, pas de dégâts directs, mais on aurait pu tous y passer et personne ne l'a vu venir.

Je vais chercher à vulgariser un maximum, tout en donnant des liens vers les sources directes, qui sont souvent très techniques et en anglais. Ça va être un peu long, mais c'est passionnant.

@rusty Information supplémentaire : systemd, qui est le chemin qu’avait trouvé l'attaquant pour atteindre openssh, était en train d'intégrer un changement qui aurait rendu la backdoor inopérante (chargement dynamique de liblzma au besoin avec dlopen() plutôt qu'avec un lien direct), donc on peut légitimement penser que ses demandes d'intégration (appuyées par des comptes qui sont lui ou des comparses) en février sont à priori une tentative un peu paniquée de faire en sorte que les distributions intègrent la backdoor rapidement, en prétextant des corrections et améliorations

Hey, I'm currently doing a little research on the cost of modern social media and messaging, given that cost is an everlasting discussion when trying to move people to more free alternatives.

I am still looking for data for messaging, such as #XMPP and #Matrix. So if you have or know someone who operates a somewhat sizable instance for either XMPP or Matrix and would potentially share some details about operational cost with me I would love to hear about it! :)

@cherti ok, so for your data for the @JabberFR service (around 700 active and connected XMPP users right now according to https://stats.jabberfr.org ), we are at around €20/month in server costs, volunteer-run so no staff costs, and the hardware is overkill except when we hit a memory leak from time to time.

@ciredutempsEsme dans celles de haut niveau ce qui m'inquiète toujours c'est le degré de solidité de la meringue, on dirait qu'ils veulent vraiment tous être uniques dessus (ça reste parfait mais ça peut être plus ou moins difficile à manger)

Just remember, Every time advocacy groups warn about tech/capitalism, believe them. We don't make shit up, we use history of actions and facts to state our reasons to be against it.

If your instance isn't part of @FediPact please urge your admins to join or move to another instance who is.

And if you want proof, ask the general public what Jabber/XMPP was, and then ask what Google how they killed it.

EDIT: Please send support to the creator of the FediPact, @vantablack as she is homeless. This is possible because of them.

EDIT #2: Some peppe are saying it doesn't happen anymore, but since it only happened to competitors to Facebook and only after people noticed, I don't think it was a "bug" that only impacted FOSS replacements, but a feature for Facebook removed. Don't give these Zuckers gaslight and think they remain innocent.

@queue not arguing with the part where threads & meta is a dumpster fire, but the part on Jabber/XMPP is still a very wrong (and commonly spread, because it fits into the narrative, thanks @ploum I guess) take considering that it is very much not dead, and the interop was quite niche at the time

@aredridel sadly it is not llm-generated nonsense, but it is in fact a ploy for the PR author to try to cash in for the newest crypto scam which is targeting FOSS projects: https://tea.xyz/
