Scientists are reporting corals are bleaching white and dying from rising ocean temperatures across a more than 1,000km stretch of the Great Barrier Reef.
Yesterday was my 1st #Anniversary here, and what a year it has been. Yes, it happens that I joined on the innaugural #JohnMastodonDay, but that was all luck. I had decided weeks earlier that TwiXer was no longer the place for me, but it took me a couple weeks to decide where to go (in retrospect it was obvious, but at the time it felt like a gamble, and I wasn't interested in a "shotgun approach"). It was important to me to find a flourishing #InfoSec community, because over the years I have found this sort of community to be one of the best places for up-to-the-minute news about the industry that is my passion.
I joined with grand ideas about posting more, and being more involved in conversations, but that hasn't been over the first year, and frankly most of my posting is still over at #LinkedIn (you can find me through my bio if you're at all interested). But the reading...the reading has been exceptional, I appreciate the insights, the availability of perspectives across the world, across gender, and across roles and backgrounds here - and I'm still just talking about #CyberSecurity content and people.
I need to thank @jerry for taking on the challenge of making a place like this exist for us. I have another ID in the Fediverse (I'm a big believer of separating church and state) and I have the unique experience of seeing what a #Great instance like #InfosecExchange operates like, vs one that just sorta kinda exists, and it is night and day. Even with that said, thank you to all the instance admins out there for giving others a place on this platform as well.
Finally, thanks to all of you posting your thoughts, findings, and news. You're why I'm here, and it is your insights that make this community the special thing it really is. Keep being the brilliant, fantastic, broken, healing, bold, scared, and excellent people you are. I'll try to keep up.
#OnThisDay in #history - Annie Besant (nee Wood) was born in 1847. Annie was born in London, and married at age 20, but the marriage fell apart in a few years. She separated from her husband and began to write - she was an ardent supporter of worker's and women's rights, even publishing a book on contraception (for which she was put on trial and custody of her daughter was given to her ex-husband). She advocated for Irish and Indian Home Rule and independence. #otd#histodons@histodons
Sieht man in anderen Bundesländern. 🙄
@davidaugust It’s my pleasure to bring a little happiness when needed. ☺️ If no one has told you today: you’re doing a #great job. Really. Trust that the #SAGAFTRAstrike will end — hopefully sooner 🤞🏻 — and there will be regular work (and income!) again. With a little faith and strong belief in ourselves and our convictions, we #actors can make the #InterimAgreement a reality for all #film and #TV. 🪧
#Canadian#Techies: That sounds like a "you" problem. They give you the traffic, you show the visitors good content and, I dunno, sell them subscriptions or something. You figure it out.
Canadian #Legacy#Media: No, that's #hard. We liked it better when almost everyone bought one of our #newspapers every day, because we more or less own them all. There was no #competition. It was #great.
#Government: We Shall Stand Up to American Big Tech, and They Shall Pay to Link.
Techies: #Google and #Facebook don't get as much out of #linking to your #stories as you seem to think. If you make them #pay to #link to you, they're just gonna stop linking to you.
#CLM: (in horror) Oh, they won't do that! They can't! They #need us.
#please don't #forget to add me to one of your #lists. I'll probably want to #reach out to you again sometime. You need to keep #lists to be able to #register#posts of your #favorites. I'm #writing this for those who are used to their #feed filling itself. That's not the case here and for me that's a good thing. The feed doesn't have to be overwhelmed with #nonsense that some #algorithm assumes you care about.
