In my live #music collecting hobby there are two kinds of grails to chase: those that might exist but probably don't, and those I know exist but haven't circulated digitally in any of the many online communities I'm part of. It's immensely satisfying when one appears, and that's the case with this specific, superb but short live Meters set from 1975. I had this on cassette circa 1988-91, lost it to a light fingered party guest & have been searching since. 1/2 #funk
This is the OG Meters at their very best: one of the best live #funk bands in history before the dragon bit them. Solid recording, not perfect but clear and strong, and the performance level is absolutely straight fire. The few other shows from this era are either softer performances or worse recordings so even though it's short this immediately returns to its place as best in class. I knew it had to pop up eventually! Thanks to everyone involved including @bourgwick for setting up the tapes bot
From 60s R&B funk to sludge metal in the mid-2010s, a couple of 45s from classic New Orleans bands, The Meters and Eyehategod. Picked up at local NOLA recod shop, Sisters In Christ, along with a fun tote.
Released in 1986 as the lead single from his fifth studio album, So, "Sledgehammer" is a vibrant celebration of love and desire. Its iconic music video, featuring stop-motion animation, won a record nine MTV Video Music Awards. The song's infectious energy and catchy horn riff helped it reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Notable guitarist Randy Resnick (not even going to try to summarize his musical history, but a quick search will reveal a considerable pedigree) offers up exactly what it says on the tin: an eclectic and quirky mix of short tunes, both instrumentals and songs, in a variety of genres. #Jazz, #blues, #rock and #funk are all name-checked and that covers most of it, but there’s lot of subtlety, and incredible quality, here.
